I’d spend more time with it. Modulating the filter bank sounds awesome. The filters and drive algos are also unlike anything I’ve heard in another vocoder. Very cool character.Cuauhtli wrote: Wed Mar 26, 2025 8:45 pm I use Vocodex and Arturia's Vocoder, need to experiment with the Pigments version. I have Lector but found it disappointing.
Let's talk vocoder plugins

might depend on the usecases, no ?carambo wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 7:32 am After many test, the best vocoder around imho is the BV-X from Reason, Orange follows, the Stock vocoder from Logic is not so bad actually, and Vocalsynth 2 is just a joke
people talk in forums as if everybody would do the same things.
But that´s not the case, no ?
anyway, all tipps welcome

Has anyone tried the Orange Vocoder Nano? It's currently $19 at audioplugin deals. I'm downloading the demo at the moment....

Well after a quick playthrough of the whopping 10 or so presets, imo, if you have a decent vocoder you're not missing anything. It does sound fine; I didn't compare but I would say it's about the same as Arturia's Vocoder V (default Vocoder patch).
It doesn't have a lot of settings to tweak so it's very easy to use. There are 4 vocoder modules/algorithms to switch between. I didn't notice much of a difference between them, there is some but not a huge difference.
So, it's sounds good, is easy to use and it's $19 at the moment. The con is there isn't much to tweak.

Thorough review of Reason's BV-X on reddit that corresponds with what was stated above.
One advantage of having ORANGE NANO is the discounted upgrade path to ORANGE IV. I got NANO free, somehow, as I recall, so keep an eye out ...
Right now either BV-X or Orange could be had by me for $49, so considering whether to demo. Perhaps I can talk myself into a proper comparison with some others at my disposal.

Played around with the orange demo's a bit more before they expired and nano is better than I originally thought. The nano presets sound better than I gave them credit for.
I didn't experiment with non-vocals though so how they perform there I don't know.

Reasons BV-X is pure fun. If you want to try it in the Rack you have to load it as a FX and not an instrument. Otherwise it won´t work as expected.kidslow wrote: Fri May 30, 2025 5:18 am Thorough review of Reason's BV-X on reddit that corresponds with what was stated above.

I have tried some other vocoders but BV-X is still my No.1 because of it´s featureset. And it´s so easy to use. Highly recommended.

Another vote here for BV-X it's the best one I've used.
It sounds great, is easy to use and has pretty much every feature you'd want in a vocoder.
One thing that it gets right out of the box is the selection of carrier signals for synthesis.
I've often found other plugins lacking in that department.
Of course you can always sidechain any other signal into the carrier.
The modulation sources are great. You can use the modulators pitch and/or Amplitude to control any parameter. I love using the pitch as an inverted modulator for Pulse width on the synth.

I will check out BV-X, I have Reason+ and actually the stock Reason vocoder is one of my favorites, along with the vocoder mode in NI Reaktor Razor and The Mouth ensembles.

Though not a 'proper' vocoder, Bitspeek is still brilliant and punches well above its weight. It's not terribly versatile but sounds lovely, and you can partner it up with something like AlterBoy to push it further. Now if they'd only update it. Come on Sonic Charge, let's not forget about the little guy.
