Yearly OS poll time again!

Hosts would work! I agonized over which forum to put this in to get the best publicity and yet not be off topic. I'll have to try Hosts next year.
As it is, I'm really pleased with the number of people who participated! I think I would do the poll differently next time however. I think I would leave off, "Fish", because newer people don't understand it, and it skews the results. I also think I should have added the Tablet/phone OSes (iOS, iPadOS, Android). I think I would skip the hardware-only option, since this is a poll about OSes. As it is though, even with the skewed and unscientific results, it's cool to see the Linux numbers so much higher than last year.
Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Regarding using Linux, is there a KVR forum or general thread for discussing Linux as an OS for DAWs, softsynths, compatibility etc? I had a couple more questions on the information you guys have already provided, but I don't want to derail this thread any further.

I hope the mods wouldn't mind me mentioning that there is a non-KVR forum called LinuxMusicians that specialises in this stuff.
On the subject of audio interfaces, I just saw the Presonus Quantum 2626 in a web store and thought the price to specs looked pretty nice. Unfortunately it seems the whole Quantum range need proprietary Thunderbolt drivers and Linux is not supported. Are there any thunderbolt (or other modern beyond-USB connection) audio interfaces at all for Linux?

For plugins that run on all three OSs, with Linux being the definitive of being on the list.

ah i see, thanx.audiojunkie wrote: Wed Jan 11, 2023 1:35 pm Sorry for the confusion , it’s an old KVRAudio inside joke. Old timers who have been on this forum a long time like me would get the joke. “Fish” is just an unrelated poll choice that has absolutely nothing to do with the poll.
Think of it as an poll selection option for those who have no interest or don’t care about the poll.![]()

Linux is pretty good, has few good native daws, but i switched to Mac last year because i caught myself more on tinkering and making vsts work on Linux that making music.

I've found Windows 7 to be better for a music studio specific computer. Especially in my hardware hybrid use.Gavincoolguy wrote: Sun Jan 15, 2023 4:18 pm I don't mind Windows 10 at all sure better than any other windows before it..
Shame they conspire to tell us what the computer must be regardless of what we specifically don't want...
I look forward to the day I can say FWF.
