Yeah, you haven't heard one in person then. They're 'nice' as far as a tablet goes, but I wouldn't use those for any remotely critical DAW work.. I don't even like the way my Apple Music library sounds out of it, but hey its better than the speaker in my Mac Mini.
I have one - of course I hook it up to my Genelecs at home but when out and about I use headphone anyway but they aren't terrible by any means.
I also have one, it sounds way better out of the speaker than my OP-1 did but not as good as my AKAI Live II which is cool in the garden etc sans headphones (and not much else that is portable can say that!). I still wouldn't mix on it though :D
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

You seem to be conflating performance with sound design here. Barring X/Y pads touch screens do ask you to look at them, that's not where I was going with it. Sound Design wise, I'm not a big fan of playing a MIDI file to sculpt the sound, I want to have hands on keys, I don't need to look at my hands to poke around at notes while I adjust parameters on a VI or VFX, and IMO it's miles better to have access to parameters with touch than with a mouse in this scenario. That, is how my studio is set up, keyboard to the right, Linnstrument directly below the touch screen.

I find the presence of crappy speakers only useful for listening to music - in an exceptional situation where the only alternative is... no music.

OT: renting software = no way.
I don't do fixed monthly costs if there's a reasonable alternative.

I hadn't gone through Apples page on the Logic iPad version until last night, and I'm torn. I absolutely hate subscription models, they kill the ability to freeze a computer for compatibility among other things. That said I really like what they did here, it looks really good, the caveat is how little they're talking about the arrangement timeline, so the question for me becomes is this thing going to be a super fantastic loop making machine where you will want to port it to the desktop version to make a song? or is it simply a touch version of Logic?

Most early feedback seems to suggest its the 'full' version of Logic, but fortunately there is a month free demo so we can also find out (I have never used Logic so it own make much difference to me)

I don't know if I'll subscribe but I am looking forward (as a PC User) to trying ogioc and seeing Alchemy again! That said, I really like the AUM workflow and I have Cubasis, Gadget, Note etc (which I use a lot less) so we will see- Apple has it all to prove if you can make a complicated DAW work on a tablet.

Yeah I got that part, but certain things are not going to be 100% the same, keyboard shortcuts might not all translate over when you don't always use an iPad with a keyboard etc. The workflow for moving things in the arrangement might end up requiring a keyboard for any sort of ergonomic sense etc. I mean right away typing on an iPad is better when you have a case with a keyboard.

IMO, in a perfect world Apple would release Mainstage for the iPad with their new touch screen version of Alchemy in it. They would magically spend the time on a network port over thunderbolt into your DAW MIDI and audio regardless of OS.

Though to be fair, with Ableton Link and a bit of planning you should be able to get a sort of approximation of Rewire between your DAW and Logic iPad? if it supports Ableton Link.

Alchemy as an AU3 would be perfect! Maybe next!

I can imagine using my iPad Pro as a hardware synth for Sculpture and Alchemy... especially since it seems you can sample directly into Alchemy.

Logic is not my main DAW on the computer (and not gonna be). But then I can run Bitwig on my studio computer and send the audio from the iPad into it. Seems like a way to have the use of Alchemy and Sculpture.

A thought at least :hihi:

Did you sell it? Alchemy still works on both my Windows PCs.

I screwed up getting a permanent license. Was busy when the small window happened for it.

I still have quite a few older Alchemy versions archived. They all use permanent licences. (simple serial numbers / personal info in the installer later on)
Did Alchemy have online activation in really old versions? (the lack thereof was one of the original reasons that I bought it, actually)

Shouldn't be too tough as long as iOS doesn't have too many 'shortcuts' or missing functions compared to MacOS.

The iPad Pro, at least the 2021 version is essentially an M1 Mac Mini with a portable screen. If Logic is working on M1 Macs, should be fairly easy for the ones that develop the OS itself to move it over.

Personally I can't reinstall it- I thought I had it backed up properly but when I changed PC's it wont load (actually licence) - I still have all my packs backed up just in case but have pretty much given up on it, recon it would be pretty small on my 4K monitor and have just replaced it with things like Phase Plant and Falcon...still interested to see how it developed in the Apple World!

Apple has done a lot of Alchemy improvements since then... it is no longer the same Alchemy. And now it looks like you can sample directly into Alchemy in the upcoming version.
