Everyone has a different definition of 'essential'. To me, essential means it records audio, records, midi, has some editing and a timeline that one can arrange clips on and then be able to export. That is what is essential.musicproducerdee wrote: Fri Jun 30, 2023 9:32 pm
Well anyways, I don't think multi output is an essential. Infact I never use it even on Bitwig Studio or any other DAW I've used. But hey, what's essential to me might not be essential to someone else and vice versa. To each their own![]()
Bitwig Studio 5 Released (good news for 16 track users as well)

There's no Poly Grid either. If you want to use the Grid, you need the full version.? ? ? wrote: Thu Jun 29, 2023 11:04 pm The only reason I would consider buying Bitwig is for it's modular features (the Grid part).
Checking into the version comparison chart, it looks like the Producer version has enough features where one could dive into some deep modular experiments? Can any experienced Grid users confirm this?
EDIT: Just double checked and saw there's no FX and no Note Grid for the Producer version. Isn't that a big chunk of using the Grid's capabilitieas lost with those limitations?
Plus, part of the value of the Grid is the flexible framework within which it exists... which includes the modulation system, the voice stacking, the great routing, selector devices and so on.

I agree. For me, basically, being able to finish a song is essential. Anything else that I don't need in order to finish a song could be considered as non-essential. Yeah, that differs from person to person. I can confirm that 95% of the times I don't even use the features that are exclusive to Bitwig Studio, like, The Grid, and yet I've completed a lot of songs in the DAW. For me, it's more about the workflow than the exclusive features.pdxindy wrote: Mon Jul 03, 2023 2:06 pm

For me, autotalent is essential.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

it would be amazing if we can get something like Push 3 standalone but it has Bitwig 5 in it.

I really wish there was a way to demo the lower versions. I'm playing with the demo of Studio, and aside from the atrocious plug-in browser, I'm digging it.
I can't really afford Studio, though, nor am I particularly interested in The Grid and all that. But I'm not clear on what I lose if I buy Essentials or Producer, since the comparison chart on the website seems to focus entirely on plug-ins.
For example, the chart says the Note Repeat plug-in is only available in Studio, but what about Note Repeat in the "Operator" panel? Is that still available in lower versions?

What do you mean by the "Operator" panel? Which Operator? [Edit: I see what you mean now] Anyway, there is no Note Repeat [as midi effect in the midi tools] in the Producer edition if that what you want to know.shatteredmindofbob wrote: Mon Jul 17, 2023 4:30 am I really wish there was a way to demo the lower versions. So, after performance issue with both Ableton Live and Cubase, I decided to buy Bitwig after some test with my 8-tracks version.
I went with the upgrade to Producer as it suits me more than the others. The update plan is more reasonable than the Studio version IMO. So, discounted is ok I think (only $79).

Oh I see! I'm also wondering about audio. From the comparison chart, I can see that Comping isn't available in Essentials, but not much else is mentioned.
I guess what I'm left wondering is if recording a guitar part is something that can be done reasonably in Essentials or Producer (though my brief time spent trying to record audio in the Studio trial has me left wondering if this is a reasonable thing to do in *any* version...).

You can just arm the track and record, like you would do in literally every DAW out there...shatteredmindofbob wrote: Tue Jul 18, 2023 8:31 pm I guess what I'm left wondering is if recording a guitar part is something that can be done reasonably in Essentials or Producer (though my brief time spent trying to record audio in the Studio trial has me left wondering if this is a reasonable thing to do in *any* version...).

One last question (if you do any audio recording) - Have you run into any situations recording audio where the app is like, "Nope, gotta upgrade if you wanna do that!"

In the past any lower tier or demo version of Bitwig would allow to do anything you wanted, but would not save it… I think you could even load a fully blown project and run it… Anyway these kind of questions are happily answered by the sales stuff @ Bitwig…
