Could well be. I owned it 6 years ago, or something. Edit: Ha, even found the PM i sent to the buyer. I sold it in early 2016. ;) So, more than 7 years ago.

How many new algos are there, though?
Since then five more got added... but in 2016 there were already seven more than the original 8.

My most favourite one is the newest one which only got added this year.

(Besides this I quite like Nonlin (2014) and Cathedral (2021) - the Chaotic modes (2017-19) are great too though (especially Chaotic Chamber can be almost completely invisible with the right settings) .)

There were a numberof years when I had basically completely stopped using V³ but now it started to replace Sonsig to again become my GoTo reverb plugin.

Start to play with melda mconvolutionmb and so enjoy it,bought it immediately (was about to wait for eventual 50% off :) anyway, you know that feeling i need it and i need it now:):):)
I think i missed entire dynamic picture so far working only with algorithmic reverbs.
Definitely combination with convolution gives more options and better result.
ReverbShaper is very interesting ,the more comparison i make, the more i see that i need more dynamic tools, so to unleash creativity, that was what i missed.
Any ideas about interesting out of the box reverb or something with extra dynamics?

Sonsig is currently $50 on sale and is hugely better (to me).
Sonsig is great but it's not as deep as VVV IMO. Which can also be a strength (1 algorithm vs like 20).

That said, one person's "muddy" is another person's "warm".
Sonsig is very pristine sounding to me. In a good way. It's like anti mud!

VVV as you say is way deeper but does seem to have that persistent build up in the mids. But again in a good way. Great for adding density and body whereas Sonsig is lovely for making things sound airy.

Both great choices, imho.

Darken QRS and increase Ensemble and its not as airy. But more than VVV overall for sure.

Are there any good audio examples of Tai Chi sounding lush, dense, and dark on vocals? There don't seem to be any on the official site, or the Youtube videos I've found (a few are close, like Droned Out and Choral Vocal, maybe with a longer decay and some EQ... still not dense enough though). It's not muddy, but it sacrifices far too much IMO for that (even in the "Vintage" examples). It's good for creating an airy, wide reverb, but I think I prefer Crystalline for that. Many of the demos are also too harsh, though that should be relatively easy to fix, at least in the full version.

It doesn't really seem like a good substitute for R4, unless you want something airy, light, and heavily chorused?

Any good substitutes for B2 at 4x quality?

R4 has plate and room modes, doesn't it? Which do you use on vocals?
Tai Chi has modes for the early reflections that can change the sound a lot, though it took me while to realise that you can crank up the distance way too much in anything larger than room mode, in which case the early stage ends up sounding like a long reverb/delay. Loads of control there.
It also has a density control, which might be what you're after. Try the demo and turn the density up. There's also the 'wander' control, which introduces artefacts and makes the reverb 'noisier', i.e brings it forwards. Plus diffusion control, which is quite precise (like Valhalla delay).
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

For R4 on vocals---hall and plate usually. But I generally prefer B2, Adaptiverb, and other reverbs.

I had planned on demoing Tai Chi extensively before BF, given the hype around it and the potential for more control over the reverb tail, but the lack of any audio examples I like has given me pause.

I'm not too much of a vocals person, but for super-naturalistic results I'd look elsewhere. I'm still learning Tai Chi a year on, and your question actually made me experiment and realise I could get a bit more out of it with the density and spread settings. It really is a deep plugin, and can do non-chorussed smooth and dense, along with the other stuff.

Edit: though I wish it had the cross-feed controls of Cinematic Rooms Pro.

R4 and Nimbus are ok for vocal and instruments, but as mixing fx on buss channel somehow sound artificial imho.
Convolution ir gives more natural space to my ears, when on bus ,start to think that maybe reverbshaper and liquidsonics reverberate 3 will give me 99% of quality and dynamics i need.
Vintage verb is so sweet and easy, but not sure it will change dramatically anything, cause R4 has even more control and basically will replace it with same reverb.
I use algorithmic reverb so long ,now convolution is opening new horizon ,so much more interesting and fresh.
Getting impression that high quality algorithmic reverb is too expensive, but affordable Convolution could gives even better results for final mix.

Have you tried Liquidsonics products ?

Still prefer EastWest Spaces II to all other convolution verbs for orchestral. Those instrument based presets are pretty unique.

This one will probably get some disagreement but I actually like Melda's free MCharmVerb and use it a lot. I found myself using it more than Valhalla Room.

It's great! I still use it, but not exclusively. Though sold by Audio Damage, the code was written by Sean Costello from Valhalla, before he started Valhalla. So it's very much in the same family as Room and VVV, but has its own vibe...

Found super affordable and clean sounding reverb.
R2 and R4 definitely give color to the mix,but first to find how to deal with ''plastic'' feeling in the tail:
