disclaimer.. i used acid 2 and moved to FL since...

I can't really see how Sony can regain the ground that Acid has lost with this release becasue...

1) Folder tracks is simply a work-around for Acid's highly limiting way of only allowing one clip per track. So if you want 10 different drum loops you can now zip them into a folder? Well whoopy-doo! I would still rather be able to have 10 drum clips organised on a single track, which you can do in Live, Sonar and Adobe Audition, all of which handle time/pitch shifting with at least as good quality and ease now.
I find Acid's one loop per track paradgim to be a STRENGH, not a weakness. its actually more organized for me, and fits into my workflow better.

who said acid didnt have video support?

Certainly not me! I was simply pointing out that other software has embraced the Acid revolution. I kinow that Acid has video and 5.1 surround ... but none of that is unusual anymore 8)

Audition, Sonar and Live are all popular programmes. I also forgot to mention that Cubase SX3 uses Acid loops now as well.

Acid used to be unique - hence its popularity and influence. But now, well, anyone who has any one of these other programmes basically has no need for Acid 5 so far as I can see from reading the specs. So unless you are already on the Acid trip, this release is fairly irrelevant.

Unless the NI link spells something bigger, in which case, this could be a far-reaching announcement...

ahh i get it now, sorry.

My fault - I wasn't very clear

Anyway, suffice it to say I'm not tempted to get Acid 5. So I'll clear off to another topic now... :)

Ooooh! Audio reverse & Rewire slave! I'm in heaven now :D Man, I do feel kinda guilty that I bought Sonar 4 recently, when I probably didn't need to. Oh well, Sonar has a ton of features that Acid doesn’t, and now with Rewire slave mode, I can drop Acid right into my Sonar projects along with FL Studio. I love it!

FYI, ACID 5 as rewire slave works great in SONAR 4.
Once rewired to SONAR, you can open the Audio Preferences page, in A5 (ReWire should now be listed as device type), select the Advanced button and add the desired number of stereo/mono buses (I think it defaults to a pair of stereo outs). Once you exit ACID 5 and SONAR (or another ReWire Host), and then reopen your host app & A5 again, you will see the previously selected number of buses/ports now exposed in your host app. Remember the more buses you create between ACID 5 and your host the more resources (CPU) will be required.

with Acid Pro 4 all audio was still stored in ram - there was no streaming from and to disk.

Apparently this hasn't changed. :?

I'm pretty sure longer files are streamed from disk, even in 4.0. I'm sure someone will clarify this.

Yeah that's what I thought. Beatmapped files at least, right?

longer files were streamed from disk in Acid Pro 1.0, circa 1998. Was that functionality lost somewhere?
