Ozone vs Fabfilter for mastering

Neither. Mix and match from various companies for various processors.

Both are fine, but over hyped, especially Fabfilter.

Fabfilter are the most vanilla sounding plugins around. Soundwise, the stock plugins from your DAW are likely extremely close to Fabfilter. The UI's are really nice, but who actually struggles with most plugin UIs? I guess if you're someone who struggles with plugin UI's for some reason and want to be stuck only with basic vanilla sound, you could go with Fabfilter.

I own Fabfilter stuff, and there's absolutely a time and place for vanilla, but I can't remember the last time I used their stuff in mastering. I've never found a reason to use it over Unisum for the same price. I can name a bunch of limiters I like better than their limiter. The EQ is just a vanilla EQ with a nice UI.

I own Ozone too but never use it because I just have better plugins from other companies. If you had to choose between the two I'd pick Ozone if it's strictly for mastering, or Fabfilter if you need plugins for mixing as well.

I have ozone.in my master chain and it's a great tool for starting a master, but by the end I'll have removed most components and use only imager, dynamic EQ, the soft clip which is really nice.

The main ozone eq to me is pretty vanilla and bx_digital or crave EQ (which is brilliant and has great m/s) do the clean/surgical duties.

For character EQ i have a few UAD and PA eqs i turn too. I've really loved the results from the PA Amek EQ 250 and this is my main EQ sculptor now for any masters I do.

The ozone compressor is also pretty neutral to me. I get that better results with UAD Manley vari mu or Fairchild, small amounts of character, then also Elysia alpha which has a very musical attack/release and can add a really nice subtle groove.

And I have done comparison of elephant, ozone and recently bx_limiter true peak, and have settled on bx true peak lately, but with a little bit of the ozone soft clip.

So many good tools available. Ozone plus a few cheap well selected PA plug ins would work very very well.

For me pro-l sounded a bit plasticy(?) and distorted faster, needed much more tweaking to get "there", which turned me off the most. Elevate for me was not hanging out with these two. Then again, there is not much limiting going on in our productions and Ozone limiter is the best for us.

It's quite alarming if you can't hear the clear difference in transparency if you've tried both and do mastering. It's concerning to say the least. One sounds like nothing, except the moves on the tools you use, and one sounds like a layer of plastic on top of everything.

Basically what I understand by this is:
"If you think differently than me you are alarmingly stupid".
"I don't even take the time to explain, because if you are not part of the elite who understand me, you are dumb".

So I find it difficult to answer you in a polite manner (which is I assure you my normal way of communicating).

But back in topic, if you don't mind sharing more, I can't comment for Pro L, I don't have it, but I find Ozone Limiter absolutely good and transparent in the way I use it...
But what about the multi band compressor ? do you (or anybody) have strong thoughts about ozone vs fabfilter ?

Ozone Limiter sounds allright in one of its ARC modes I dont remember which, (ARC-IV i think?) since it was a long time ago I used it. The other modes I found wasnt that great. I find Pro-L to be clearer, in its "modern" and "transparent" modes.
I use the "modern" mode for the bulk of limiting, then a 2nd pro-l with "transparent" mode for TP limiting.

Pro-MB sounds a bit plastic in its Zero Latency mode, but turns transparent in its Linear Phase mode. Thats what I hear, that is just my opinion. Please dont laugh, bully, attack or ridicule me for having such an opinion. (not just you but your peers here, aswell)

IRC mode 4 is indeed the mode most users use ozone limiter. Frankly, it is good enough for me.

If you use a limiter in mastering to such an extent and a lot of Gain reduction so that pro l2 or ozone sounds like plastic, then you should overthink the way you are mastering and also learn to use them in-depth, cause there is A LOT to it that you might not know (look it up on youtube "Panorama mixing and mastering"). That to me is "concerning to say the least" and "alarming". Professionals all around the world are using these limiters/clippers with great results and they are indeed interchangable (to a great extent, not 100%) to get similar results if you know how to tweak them. So yeah, calling others out like you did for not hearing a difference makes you look pretty silly (and thats why you got laughed at, understandably) and obvious that you dont know how to use them effectively. I use both regularly and so do others.
