Yes, I was miming terribly, we did it in one take and high summer in Queensland in the garage, that was all it was going to get
I know a lot has been said about "this couldn't have happened without <insert name here>", but this is an instance where this is 100% the case. I had little to no experience, and beyond a story, lyrics and a simple melodic hook, I really didn't have anything here. Benedict did the arrangement and instrumentation, and helped me to really tell the story that I had in mind.
My original vocal melody for the chorus didn't really fit with the story, and he suggested a progression than felt truer to the picture of this woman alone and angry in her room, drinking as she reflected on the position she found herself in. It allowed me to push this more into the vocal delivery and lifted the passion of the song. On top of everything else, he also mixed and mastered the song and the EP.
Apart from the tangible contributions Benedict made, he really helped me to overcome a lot of fear I had with performing and trying to sing for the first time pretty much ever in my life. He encouraged me when I was stalled and brought out the best performance I could give.
So when I say "this couldn't have happened with Benedict," this is not an exaggeration. It is simply the truth.
