I love Spacer in theory, but whenever I use it I always kinda struggle with it more than I expect. For some reason it's always really quiet and I have to crank the gain on both the individual modules and the plugin, and the reverb tails/delay feedback never really sound like I want them to.
Not complaining about a good, free plugin, but I've noticed that I often end up fiddling with it, getting something acceptable but not exceptional, and then getting something I'm a lot happier with after swapping it for a couple of individual plugins. Maybe user error, but I usually end up happier with the results of similar multi-plugins like Guitar Rig, Triad, or MixBox.

Reverbs are often the sound of many delays. There's usually a short (i.e. echo off a wall) component, and a longer tail, which is more echoes washing out to sound like a larger area.
Im some algorithms you can hear this graininess in the tail. Blackhole is one of those.
For me, it isn't the best if I want a smooth sustained reverb tail.
I'd say it's likely that of such a large reverb is wanted, then it's likely more as a spacial effect and not something you'd use on all parts during a track.
Anyway you can make a lot of things work for this type of effect, so in many ways it bubbles down to a textural choice, and if it's works well with the particular sound you're using it with.
I've got some techno stuff going on at the moment and I'm just rinsing the SSL Flex Verb. It can also do big spaces, but has a quite metallic texture to it that I'm enjoying for this project.
I think in general UAD have some of the best reverbs, but perhaps don't have that giant spaced one.
2Caudio breeze is certainly the smoothest though imo.
Bx aura... Now this is very very grainy, but can have it's uses...

I should mention NI Molekular. Some crazy stuff in there.

Valhalla delay at the right settings w/ diffusion cranked is good. Also the reverb in Nexus 5 w/ shimmer engaged & particle fx in the chain is very good. It's the best itb 'celestial' reverb I've heard personally.
Output Portal could probably do celestial, I think, depending on definitions.

If I had the $199 budget I would buy the superb Strymon Big Sky

For now I content myself with the excellent free Skyverb

Butterfly effect has a great feature where you can automate the tail so it conforms to the key of your song. Kind of like adaptiverb without the automatic aspect.
It may be expensive (I got it on sale) but feature wise it's pretty amazing and it just sound so lush.

There’s this Multi Effects block in the Designers Pack from Toybox Audio, which eats CPU for breakfast, but can produce beautiful sounds I haven’t quite heard anywhere else.

The lite version that was given away with every issue of Computer Music is more full-featured than a lot of paid reverbs I own and sounds great.martiu wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 1:28 pm the only opponent of Eventide Blackhole is JMG Hyperspace, amazing reverb but a bit cpu intensive
