incidentally (if i remember rightly) the minimal install one, whilst being streamlined for the ol' slowmowebbers, doesn't have the FinalMix plugin built in - you have to get the "full with examples" version in order to get that extra little su'n su'n

there IS no way to dl the key file. i am waiting for mine via email also.

I thought Peter was asking where to dl the software.

sorry spe3d but how is it in any way offensive for previous buyers? yeah i guess if someone had just bought it ten minutes ago they'd be peeved, but i think it's an amazing idea. so what, i paid for something and now it's cheaper for everyone else. big deal! i'm glad to see it get more users! and it's not like i payed an arm and a leg for it, anyway, is it?

(and on a more general note)
as far as T2 goes, this doesn't affect anyone in the slightest. people who have T1 already, or people who get it for free now. we were gonna have to pay for T2 upgrades anyway, mackie can tell who's registered with NFR versions, so obviously they're not gonna get the same upgrade offer as us old-timers. it was already announced that we'd pay the difference between T2 and T1 as an upgrade price. if they get it for free now, they'll just pay full T2 price when they upgrade (which is as if they didn't get it free anyway). if that means more customers for them then well done!

If it’s offensive to me – it does not need to be justified by me – to you or anyone else – stat.

If the fact I am a customer and feel this way – to the point I need to post about it – its up to the Mackie machine to find a way to appease the situation for current customers – who may or may not feel just a little miffed at this time – bearing in mind all they know is – its now free and T2 may cost the existing user base money to upgrade.

Hmm.. at first I was like "wtf did I bother paying for Tracktion for if they pull this", then I started thinking.. it's like a drug dealer, see? The first pill is free.. then you're hooked.. and when T2 comes out, you gotta have your fix, but now you pay muahahahahaha! It's really rather ingenious.

I wouldn't expect with this nfr version, to have to pay anthing but the full price for T2. I'm sure the original owners will get a sweet deal on the upgrade.

I have d/l'd the minimal instal, and installed it.

I have the Machine ID from the about page in Traktion, and also registerd on the My.Mackie site.

it states

speed - T2 has always been planned as a paid-for upgrade. this freebie has absolutely no effect on T2 for ANYONE.

I think this *is* genius. More people ought to do it. It's all good, as long as they can tell the difference between payng customers and freebies.

I read all the reviews, and don't think I'm going to DL right now. Not because I think it's crap (I don't), but because the most precious thing for me is time to learn all this stuff. I don't have *nearly* enough of that, and if I take time off Cubase and various plugs to learn Tracktion, then it'll be a net loss, I think. There is something to be said for having fewer things, and knowing them better.

Plus, there's no rush. I can't see them pulling this offer.... the more people who own this thing, the more potential upgraders. So, I can always change my mind.

haydxn, it's a brilliant marketing event indeed. But it does hurt the current users' feeling at the same time, especially those who have purchased T recently would feel being cheated(like Spe3D, Montana etc.).

It's too early to judge Mackie as it depends on how they will take care of the paying customers.

Overall speaking it's a great thing for the whole world. As someone has mentioned it already, this is the first free-and-excellent host in the world.(sorry, but trackers and severely dated hosts don't count)
