Presuming you are playing all those strings, then that's actually a DMaj7 (Lovely chords major seventhshavran wrote:[scribbles notes and counts keys]

Or on B7 (Bsus7, Bmin7). Or on F7alteredManc Chris wrote: If you just play the top three strings, then you can funk out on a F#m
Or on Gmaj7#11
(one of my favourite techniques: Make the most of one single pattern/shape).

I tend to drop on this fella pretty often:
Em9
E, B, F#, G, D, E
Nice chord.
Or GMaj9. I like 9's!
Also find my hands naturally moving towards Am11 (A, G, C, D)

My fingers usually head straight for Amaj7 on the guitar. I never start with a chord on keyboard though, I automatically start improvising in Dorian mode (around D, unsurprisingly
). Either that or Eb major (without the B, for some resaon
).

Don't know Tugger, maybe you should think about selling hats. You might be better at that? I don't know what the pays like either?

On piano/keyboard I can't help but play min9th's and it's usually G#min9 I play first
Love maj7th's too.
On guitar would be min7th's/13th's played up and down the fretboard.
Shif.

You know I got into music by learning the piano.
I spent a number of years learning scales and arpeggios and learning to site read and perform recitals of classical music.
I did one year of modern piano and learned more about song construction and writing music than any of the other years of classical or even music theory.
I wish at the time I had done more modern piano because I'd probably be a better composer now.
I might hunt around for a DIY modern piano course.

This is my favorite guitar chord in the whole world---
it's an E maj 7 (with a 6 or 13, depending on who you ask).
E - Open
A - 11
D - 11
G - 11
B - 12
E - 11
Easy to play, and rings beautifully on most guitars.
