Who here is using the Novation ReMote series?

I got my keystation pro 88 replaced about 2 weeks ago. The new one is WAY better... The first one I got (back in November) had the "black keys way too loud" problem and really inconsistent velocity.

On the new one the black keys play so nice (wow what a difference), the action is actually a bit less spongy and the velocities are way more consistent across the board (although still not perfect).

Only big issue I have is one key seems to have a velocity issue where it plays a lot softer than the rest but I managed to fix that with a midi velocity curve plugin in my host mapped to just that key.

All in all, they've definitely improved the keyboard... it is still not perfect as far as touch and consistency but WAY better than the first batches last year.. I now feel like I got my money's worth.. M-Audio support gets a big thumbs up for being so co-operative about the return process!

That is how mine plays- the new keybeds are WAY WAY WAY better, though still not perfect. I have had mine for three months now and still enjoy it quite a bit, I would need to replace it unless it breaks on me..

What other 88 keys option are there? Unless you buy something like Roland/Yamaha/Korg's 88 keyboard. I was trying out the keys in my local music store, I kinda like the feel of the semi-weighted...but don't know what it would sound like when I play it with my keyboard...velocity and touch.

I own an Ozonic...and I was playing with in Reason. I also have a Fantom X6...what I found was that there's a little bit of a difference when I play with both keyboards. I love the feel of the Fantom, but when I play on the same patch with the Ozonic, it just doesn't have the same "UMPS" as the Fantom.

Anyway, M-Audio's products usually very good. I'll probably add the Keystation Pro-88 to my setup soon as well.

I tried Fantom X6 today and to me it seems like a very nice synth action and not semi-weighted.It's very light and smooth compared to my Korg 01/w in a positive way.I like it

I like it nice and smooth...for a synth anyway. But if I want piano action...there isn't one that's even close yet. Although the Motif by Yamaha is close...still not the same.

Waiting for my replacement now (M-Audio says they are replacing it) - hope the issues have been fixed

Hello all,

Anybody know serial number ranges for defective Keystations? Or at the very least, starting range of known "good" Keystations? I don't want to buy one just to find out it's from a defective lot...

Do yourself a favor and shell out less money for a CME UF80 or maybe an older CME UF8. Or if you want to spend more money and get the best piano-type action around, buy yourself a Studiologic Fatar. I have a VMK-188 Plus and it's true 88 key heaven.

I've heard the Fatar action (italian, I believe) is unbelievable...

Is the CME UF-80 cheaper (less expensive) than the KS Pro 88???

I think a cross between the Fatar (keybed) and the KS 88 Pro (controllers) would be ideal... but... well... guess that's not gonna happen anytime soon...

Ive replaced my Keystation, I noticed that parts I played on it seemed to always be off a bit, and while I know Im not a great keys player, I can at least play basically on time. I got a Roland Fantom X8 and my timing improved. ALOT. The weighting of a Keystation isnt quite right, and the balance isnt that great.

I am in no way a good pianist or even keyboardist, but I like my Keystation 88 (not the pro) for getting ideas 'n such going. That's basically all I use it for. Most certainly nowhere near a "good" keyboard but it's cheap and it works. Actually too many keys for me though, probably going to get a different keyboard in the future.

I'm a huge fan of the Fatar weighted hammer action, and for several years it was my only MIDI keyboard controller, but it *is* a little awkward playing fast organ licks on a piano. So recently I complimented the old SL-880 Pro with a Novation ReMOTE 37 SL. It gives me the knobs and sliders that the Fatar lacks and a very fast and consistent "semi-weighted" action. It bugged me just a little to be paying extra for the adaptive software capability that I don't absolutely need, but 3 octaves with that action was ergonomically perfect. Now I can no longer blame my tools.

I am electro and i like it I have the remote 61 SL. since the topic here seems to be the action i really like it. i previously had an Ozonic and it served me well but the first time i played Zebra with the remote i finally got the velocity senstive thing while playing. however a full velocity of 127 is pretty easy to get as well. The Automap thing is still in a early stage however it is pretty revolutionary.
as a side note i noticed an increase in sound quality when i switched from the Ozonic to a remote + a firewire 410. i think having the ozonic sitting on my system ate up alot of bandwidth. i am on a mac and found a firewire protocol update on the focusrite website (i have a saffire for tracking) which helped alot.-gos

And here's the answer to the question of a Fatar controller with controls like a KS88 Pro. Just buy a Remote or some other small keyboard. Or even a remote zero.
In addition to my Fatar-Studiologic, I have an Axiom 61 for the controllers and the light action, so I can play hammond and synth parts without auto-amputating my hand.
