Has the timestretching quality improved in Live 4?

Sonar 4 Studio is not in the same price range $700-800, Recycle is okay I guess never used it that much, I use soundforge all the time and it's not doing what Live 4 can do. Adobe Audition's forte isn't timestretching either. You guy's keep naming shit but again within Live 4's price range, feature set, flexibility, you really can't name anything that can compare equally.

Perhaps pricing is different in the States?

In the UK, SOnar 4 Studio and Adobe Audition (as well as FL5) are all CHEAPER than Live 4. Acid 5 is the same price as Live.

I have Audition and Live 4 and I can confirm without a doubt that the time-stretching in Audition is significantly better, with a smoother quality and far fewer artefacts.

The timestretching algorithm in Live 5 is Elastique provided by ZPlane. Yes, the same one as FL Studio 5. It's very good indeed but not quite as good as that used in NI Kontakt.

I've used Live 2,3 and 4 and I find the Timestretching fine as long as you use the right mode (beats, tones, textures). There are often artifacts when you timestretch, depending on how much you timestretch...even in programs like Acid. If you expect to stretch a 2 second sample to 2 minutes, it's gonna sound mighty weird! Which is quite ok by me...depends on how you work or what sounds you really need.
The real problem I have with Live 4 is the fact that it seems so CPU intense compared to Live 3. I know that people go on and on about the routing capabilities of it and how they seem to shine, but I found it less than intuitive.
I've been using Tracktion for a few weeks now and it's smooth, efficient and seems to offer a great deal of functionality for the price range.
I'm even thinking of going back to Live 3 as I seemed much more productive and had less slowdowns without the VSTi capabilities thrown in. Which is a great pity.
Live is great at what it does. It's not shit...it's a very useful tool in its field, not a be all and end all product for everyone.
There are some people who swear by FL studio. I've been using it since version 1 on and off and quite honestly, it's not good to compose in. I prefer a less 'step' oriented approach. But, it's still a useful tool nonetheless at times.

My bad fellas I didn't actually mean to say "shit" referring to the other programs. I was saying shit in the slang terminology, although maybe it wasn't very appropriate! Anyway I've used lots of the programs mentioned and they are very powerful and all good at doing certain things. There definetly isn't one program that can do it all for you (depending on your needs) but Live should be mentioned in the top 10 or top 5 for it's what it does especially when timestrectching is involved. It's also a very young program so expect great things in the future! I hope I didn't offend anyone.
