UltraJv quoth Sorry but apart from a few geek differences, Linux and Unix are the same.
Sorry, but apart from a few correct words in that sentence, it is entirely false.

Possibly not yet - at least not when you wouldn't be able to make full use of the new plugins anyways (which you wouldn't because the Mac Mini in stock mode should not allow you to run much of them).jackson wrote: I guess the question then is, if that's all I'm going to use it for, is the difference between 5.5 and 7 all that great to warrant the move?
Just imagine you'd have a lot of EXS sampler instruments - those will be rendered close to useless on that Mac Mini - and you won't be able to run them of your PC in slave mode either.
256MB RAM are just completely insufficient for music making and especially mixing. So that'd be the first thing you'd have to update.
Then there's the KVM switching issues...
Seriously, in case I'd been getting a Mac for Logic use (something I'd seriously love to do) it'd be at LEAST a dual 1 Gig G4 (which is a pretty flawlessly performing machine), better a G5.
In all other cases I'm sure you'll be dissapointed by the lack of performance, compared to a reasonable PC (on which Logic 5.5.1 is running VERY smooth, stable and efficient).
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

FYI... I've used 2 different Macs in the last 2 years, a 1.25ghz G4 and a Dual G5... and I have scanned them regularly with Virex... not one virus yet? Unless this virus scanner isn't working, that's total BS!

well, I've had PCs for 15 years and have probably found 5 vii in scans over that whole periodDHR53 wrote:FYI... Same here - and I've never had a virus infection - had a fair number sent to me of course in emails (esp when that Netsky bug was rampant) but always caught and quarantined before they get any further.spaceman wrote:well, I've had PCs for 15 years and have probably found 5 vii in scans over that whole periodDHR53 wrote:FYI... aaah, if you see it that way.. then I might have had 2 viri infections on my machines that slipped through the net. They usually don't get that far in the first place. I don't use 'previews' in email clients and delete anything I don't recognise
I've found a few on CDs or disks through scanning..
but I think lately spyware and tryans and all are more annoying than viri. I have a very good firewall (well, in a way I have 2.. model as well)
but viri? not really

I don't need a firewall... at least not on my Mac, anyway!

While it's probably true that macs users will experience more problems in the future if macs become more popular, the fact that mac users don't generally run with super-user permissions whereas windows users generally do helps a lot.spaceman wrote:well there's no doubt they're 1000 times more secure than PC but I believe that's just because no one has bothered so far

yeah right..azyte wrote:Hackers respect Apple, that's the real-world difference.
maybe it's because they'd rather be seen wearing women's clothing than own a Mac.. it's not good for your hackers credibility to have one, you see
hackers and viri writers don't respect anything or anyone, that's why they write the stuff

Maybe the hackers are too poor to upgrade their incompatible hardware every 2 years
