New experiment... :D

I tried to record MrRay73 through my guitar amp. Signal path:

Laptop with MrRay73 and the M-Audio Keystation Pro88 -> Roland GP8 -> Alesis Quadraverb GT -> Marshall Valvestate 8008 -> Marshall 1922 (2x12" cabinet) -> Mic Behringer XM2000 -> Yamaha 01v -> Computer

this is what came out:
http://www.soundfonts.it/store/mrray73_amp.mp3

(don't care for my bad playing)

Wow

Sounds great! Any way to achieve a similar result with software exclusively? Could you write what you sent the audio through? (Not the names but what they are)

Post

Roland GP8 = guitar multieffect
Alesis Quadraverb GT = guitar multieffect and preamp
Marshall 8008 = dual 80w guitar amp (rackmount)
Marshall 1922 = 2x12" 85w celestion guitar cabinet

Behringer XM2000 = dynamic cardioid microphone, equivalent to Shure SM58
Yamaha 01v = digital mixer, in this case used just as mic preamp

I achieved a similar result with Effectizer last version, not identical but quite close.

I like that sound a lot.

I've been using RubyTube (http://www.silverspike.com/rubytube.html) as an amp sim for MDA ePiano. It really helps give MDA ePiano some extra crunch. And it's free. Does anyone else have suggestions for amp sim plugins for electric piano?

Post

There's a free reduced version of Amplitube on the german Keyboards cover CD. Seems to work nicely for e-piano stuff as well.

oh man... I have sooooo much to learn... Just reading this thread ... the simple idea to route VST output to a real or VST amplifier... so far I only used them for my guitar...

btw the mp3 is great too :)

This file is not intented to be officially released (at least not now) and will be probably deleted in the near future.
Is there a fresh link?

I was wondering the same...

Oh sorry, the file name has changed.
This is the correct link:

http://www.soundfonts.it/store/MrRay73.dll

Keep in mind that this is a *temporary* file, so sonner or later it'll be deleted and replaced with an officially released version.

Looking forward for your comments ;)

ah, that new velocity curve display is better :)

Thanks for the link... I'll be comparing with learjeff's jRhodes3 soundfont (I was going to say "unfortunately" but that's unfair on LJ!). And maybe a bit of JCM900... :hihi:

I'll have to spend some time twiddling its knobs, I think...

Hi there, this sounds really really good. I have played a real Rhodes Mk2 at a few sessions, but that was a couple of years ago. For me the one thing that I don't feel right is that the transition from the clean sound to the overdriven sound happens too rapidly over too small a velocity range - it's quite hard to keep the sound at a steady loud level while playing.

Hi All,
I just made a further "improvement" to the sound of this little thing...

The link to download the plugin is always the same:
http://www.soundfonts.it/store/MrRay73.dll

but please, delete (or rename, move away) the old files MrRay73.dll and MrRayLE2.dll and keep in mind that these are just beta versions, not to consider as final versions... I don't even know wether I'm gonna release it one day :)

Now I'm seriously thinking that trying to reach the "perfect" emulation is definitely impossible, whatever synthesis or methods are used.. Every time I tweak parameters and variables in the code, I always "feel" that something is missing.. something that I'm used to call "soul" ... Yes, the Rhodes piano has a soul that I can't still hear in my emulations (and anyone else's).
Btw, this one dated Feb 16 2005 is, to me, a step forward. I compared it with the mp3 demos from the Scarbee and the Dusty Electric libraries and now I can hear it quite convincing.

Let me know :)
