I've had a similar dream where I've been in a small music (instrument) shop and was doodling with a groovebox which I equated to an RM1X.. but in my dreams it was almost the size of a keyboard and was on sale for dirt cheap..

my dream's location kept switching from the music shop to an old dept. store like woolworths or TG&Y

I think it started off being on a display rack in the music shop and then at one point they were in boxes the the discounted tag in the middle of an aisle by the flashlights.. yet somehow that was supposed to be the same place..

often I work on music up till bedtime, and then I say to myself, 'ok, I'm going to dream of some lyrics for this!'
but it hasn't worked
:(

I often dream of the space between tracks.

apart from last night when I woke at 3am because I was being chased by zombie that just wouldn't die. They have a habit of not dying I've noticed.

Because of this thread I am now working on a song that was in my head when I woke up yesterday. It's a little hard to get it right, but I have recorded enough hints to remind me how it went. :D

BTW, I read an article once that claimed that the key to having lucid dreams is to always, also when awake, ask yourself "hang on, is this a dream?" and examine a little to make sure. This will after a few weeks get you in the habit of it, and with a bit of luck, suddenly you'll realize that this is in fact a dream, and then you will become aware of your dream while having it and actually control it. A friend of mine used that to kill a monster in a nightmare once, and thanked me for the tip :)

Hehe - it was a gorilla-looking bouncer that threatened to throw him out from his own 30th birthday party...

But my mate knocked him down to the basement, straight through the floor, because he suddenly realized that "hey, this is MY f**king dream, and you don't win this fight!" hehe.

Great question this... Yes, many well known artists claim to hear music in their dreams, Paul McCartney (as was mentioned earlier) appparantly dreampt the tune 'Yesterday'.

Brian Wilson claimes that he never takes credit for the tunes he wrote with the Beach Boys cos he was guided by a 'higher power' at the time (it could also be argued that the guy is a schizophrenic and is always 'accompined' by something or other!)

I too woke up one morning last summer with a tune and song lyrics going through my head, which I intend to use on a project very soon (already got a rough loop 'on ice'. . .

Remember though, according to research its unlikely that you'll remember any dream unless you wake in the middle of it

I have dreams about making music all the time--sometimes it's performing live (and there's always anxiety involved--but also a sense of freedome), sometimes it's just playing an instrument (usually guitar or drums. Funy thing is, keyboards is my main instrument, but I don't dream about playing it). I don't have dreams about original music though--only about playing instruments. HOWEVER, I get original compositions/arrangements in my head a lot--often when I'm walking down the street--just pops out of nowhere. Of course I can never remember them when I get home. I carried a portable handheld cassette recorder for a while, and it worked, but it's cumbersome to keep in your pocket.

I've used the sound recording function on my nokia for a couple of melodies and bass lines that I've made up while walking. Feels a little weird to sing into my phone like that, but it works, and that one I'm carrying around anyway. :)
