Wow. The Urban Verbs. I had no idea anyone remembered them or even knew them in Australia.BONES wrote:I'm pretty much already there - I rarely find anything new that I like so I tend to listen to stuff from my heyday, 25 years ago. I just finished cranking through URBAN VERBS and was listening to The SOUND before that. Even the EBM stuff I like is from the early '90's. The things that put me off a lot of new stuff is that its just the same old stuff being endlessly recycled. I can almost guarantee that I will still be making the kind of music I am now because I really can't see mechanism whereby I might calm down at any time in the future, if you know what I mean.
One of the best shows I ever saw was them at Columbia Station in the summer of '79. There was a buzz about them that was something special, they were a cut above all the other local bands even before they signed. Only the Bad Brains were more electrifying, the classic Bad Brains Bayou show from December of 1980 was the only local show more pwerful than that Verbs show from the previous summer. Too bad Eno didn't produce them; Danny Frankel played me a tape of that session once and it was really good. I have no idea where my UV records are right now.
Actually, I had the pleasure of playing with Danny when he sat in with my band the Psychotics from time to time and on some other projects. An absolutely brilliant drummer. I think he's still with K.D. Lang. I wish I had seen him with Lou Reed.
Billy Swan who replaced Linda France on bass has been playing with the revived Muffins whenever they get together. I'm not sure about the rest. Listen to me talk like anyone knows anything about DC music 25 years ago.
End ramble.
On Topic:
I am still listening to the music I liked back then, and less and less feel any sense of connection to the passion of music itself from anything new. Except new stuff from my old favorites, like Peter Gabriel's last record. I have no plans to retire, a musical career affords one that luxury. Perhaps by then I will have some small clue as to what I am doing.

speaking of black sabbath, ozzy is a true rocker at heart even though he's old. his stuttering voice is an indication that he's a senior citizen, but the man never seems to slow down. i doubt that he will change his taste from rock to, say, standards. what is he now, in his late 60's? early 70's?Sicklecell666 wrote:I'll probably say f**k all this crap & go back to Black Sabbath..
cheers!
be part of the solution, not the problem

I'll have no teeth.. and I'll have arthiritis. I'll be in a nursing home (no kids...) and I'll be asked to be brought to a super computer in the recreation room. I'll just watch kvr all day... and try to listen.

I agree with Sepheritoh:
One things for sure, I won't be listening to Bob Dylan!

i've always prefered Schubert to the Chemical Brothers, although I listen to both of them.
Hopefully I'll keep an open mind and a sensible heart, in other words: a musical soul.

I can't wait to be 65 - I'm trying Heroin, Crack, S&M, send death threats to politicians daily, and pee wherever I want to pee!
And sing and bang out 'Four Enclosed Walls' by PiL relentlessly in the prisons and senoirs homes.... Molly - take your teeth out!

LSD might be too weird, but mushroom tea would put me in good with the pixies.

If trends continue with music getting more simplistic and more offensive, I suspect we'll be listening to people shouting cuss words over a 4x4 kick drum pattern with a constant stream of distorted pink noise.
