by the way
the P5 v2 Tour is underway in the US and Canada and for anyone with any interest in this host, I recommend spending an evening with one of the product specialists as they run through the features. They do a good job and are usually very open to questions and occasionally reveal future considerations.

you should have enough power to run P5 on the 1.3

Have never thought of checking out Project 5 untill reading this thread.
What strikes me is that the work flow sounds the same as Ableton Live. So why should I choose P5 over Live? As P5 sounds like it is very much Live.Inspired?

well i can think of some reasons, but you'd have to verify them for yourselfSo why should I choose P5 over Live? As P5 sounds like it is very much Live.Inspired
P5 started and continues with a midi editing focus and integrated the audio recording and Live-like features. It can't do all Live can do in a live setting. I still see it primarily as a composition/producer host, not a performance host, but the performance features are well integrated and one can now play in and record midi, audio and the Groove Matrix/Live-like performance -- so in another sense it's much more Sonar as well.
Live started from a live performance host and moved towards composition and added midi. A lot of people seem more disappointed with Live's midi implementation than are disappointed with P5's Live implementation (which to be fair was pretty much develped in the Kinetic product and migrated to P5)
since P5 can serve as Rewire host and client, there's no need to go either/or.

I tried out the demo briefly. The midi does seem to be a bit better than Live's. The whole app seems to be reasonalby intuitive. It would be nice to have some Ableton like tutorials.
What I couldn't work out was how to get multiple outputs to work for virtual instruments. Can anyone shed any light on that? As this is essential for something like drums with DR-008.

i don't have the app in front of me but multi-out instruments can be handled by setting up channels with controls that have recently changed -- used to be a spinner control, but now I think it's in a few places -- including in that pane on the left that presents the device chain -- you'll have a new full device chain for each output channel
it's also possible now to use track layers with different assignments for more conventional muti-timbral instruments -- but with a drum synth like DR-008 you could set up layers to work with each output channel and related device chain -- so kick is one layer, snare another, hihats another -- that's how Rene set up some of his demo projects for the multi-out on Dimension -- maybe look for that
without the app in front of me I'm afraid I'm not of much use -- a single screen shot would be of more use, maybe consult the help. But it's definitely doable and actually faily slick once you get it

not to discourage anyone from posting here, but
some of these technical / user interface questions may get more complete answers at the cakewalk Project 5 forum
http://forum.cakewalk.com/tt.asp?forumid=6
and then the technical issues would come to the attention of Cakewalk as they do monitor the boards and they're interested in user feedback and experience

Many thanks. Thats all I needed to hear that it is doable.
