Has any1 managed to create a ableton live like loop file for energy xt. I've been playing around with live mode for quite a while but its just so anoying having to create drum loops and patterns before i press play, it'd be good to create them on-the-fly.

I'd love to be able to record loops over the top of each other on seperate tracks (audio or midi) and then i could "mangle" them later on. Any1 got any ideas on how to do this?

If you need on-the-fly time stretching, Native Instruments Intakt, or Devine Machine VST are currently the only plug-in products which could even get close to what you are asking for.

If you are happy with REX style beat chopping, Xt's sampler does a great job, but there are many other products that would also fit the bill:
-Phatmatik http://www.glaresoft.com/products/phatmatikpro/
-Dicer or MicroDicer http://www.concretefx.com/Synth.htm
-LiveSlice http://www.livelab.dk/ (New)

It would be really cool if Ableton would release Ableton Lite as a VST plugin...

i just wanted to throw it out there that there is an awesome beat lookup reaktor ensamble that mimics (and ultimatly bests) the Tim Exile "beat masher" thing or whatever is demo'd on the NI reaktor site. You can find a 20 something page discussion on it in the forums. It does all that live time stretching stuff and all the parameters are mappable to cc's obviously.

I've had success just messing with beats in it (live idm stuff) but also its quite capable of loading chunks of songs at a time.

Take 3 of those, insert into eXT, and call me in the morning :)

What is the method of "stretching" for this?

Post

it has two ways... time which keeps the relative pitch just plays thru the sound slower and like a pitch thing which slows it down and drops the pitch

Post

What is the exact name of the ensemble please? Perhaps interested people can read about it further on the NI forum.

Post

the name changed quite a bit during the development cycle, was called something like "Beatlookup with loop rippa" but here is a link to the forum page:

I've been using XT over the past few weeks as a virtual keyboard rack (and love it!) and have a couple of small FRs which would make things a little easier for live performance/configuration:

1. Would be great if all numerical entry boxes could be edited by double-clicking; e.g. when adding a new envelope track in the sequencer, the value box can be double clicked but the output CC# has to be clicked and dragged. Would save having to click and drag the box to get the desired value (very annoying on a laptop touchpad).

2. More flexibility with the file mapper numbering; my MIDI hardware controller is not very flexible and outputs only a small range of program change numbers and not in a logical sequence, i.e. it can produce PC #s 1,2,6,7,15,16,17 etc. The file mapper assigns an ascending program change number to each new patch that is specified (i.e. PC #0 for patch 1, PC #1 for patch 2 etc.). In order to, for example, just use PC #s 1 and 5 one has to insert empty patches for PC #s 2 - 4, and if a patch is then deleted a new one cannot be inserted in the middle of the list; it is appended to the end (and assigned a corresponding PC #). A workaround is possible using something like MIDI-OX, but I would rather have everything handled in XT so there's one less thing to worry about. Would be useful if you could just add a patch to the list and manually select the PC # it responds to.

3. File mapper available in the VST version; would be awesome to have XT VST running virtual instruments which could be changed with the file mapper, and then any global effects applied in the main XT host would be unchanged. Again this could be done with a workaround-namely opening all VSTIs at the same time, but this could waste a lot of CPU. I think this FR is being discussed in another thread at the moment...

4. Did someone once mention MIDI scripting...?

btw, I'm using XT v1.3.6.

Thanks,

BN.

My thing is that I really want to use the multi mode with a variety of looping arrangements, and adjust the loop points live, but eXT doesn't update the loop points unless I restart the sequencer from the beginning.

Also, even when I do that, it doesn't consistently/accurately stop playing at the end of the arrangements.
If this could be fixed, or someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'd be very happy.

Can I unstick this thread - what do you guys think?

Perhaps we could start another one instead once the new live mode gets added to XT2...

yep.

Yes. Go ahead. I've been patiently waiting for the official update as well. Got other things to keep me busy until then.

o.k. - two voices agree (with one of them being the thread-starter) while no-one shouts 'please no' - well, that's it then I think... :-)
