Master compressor obviously has nothing else in common with VW than the GUI. The sound is much much better and actually sounds very promising. This is a real compressor, like MidgeUre said, it really does have the quality of expensive $$ outboard (imo) but so does sonalksis too

Love the sonalksis.

Still, the claim to sound like expensive handware is always being bandied about. Vintage Warmer was supposed to sound like vintage gear, but if it did then it was modelled on the fartiest compressor ever made. The proof shall be in the metaphorical pudding.

Is this a zero-latency compressor? My biggest issue with the PSP stuff I've bought (and minus Nitro and the delays I've bought it all) has been the dynamic latency, which not all hosts can compensate for (do any?). This has been addressed with most of their plugs, but I still can't use the very nice MasterQ as a track EQ because of the promised update for that one still hasn't come.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

I thought they were both compressors.

IMO, Vintage Warmer is sooo cool, what to do ? ...

I ordered the 3-plug package the moment I got the email from PSP.

Sonalksis is a good compressor in native VST world, but so is Kjaerhus and Crunchessor, etc. This one, however, seems to have some more of that hardware shine, it places instrument in some better space, if I may say so. Everything has to be taken in coparision - it is probably not as full sounding as a good analog compressor (after my previous shotouts I don't even want to try it again), but I've just played with the 3 mentioned above and listened against the PSP - I'm very impressed even with some of its presets. This could be another important step up for the VST world. I did not like the GUI at all, tho., but I could live with it if I dig the sound. Let's see how it feels when a usable demo is released.

I thought it had a very pleasent sound to be honest. Warmer and less brittle than the L3 we use to master stuf here. Reminds me a bit like the Fairchild Uad-1 plugin.

I would use this on a buss for sure, but would need to try the demo more. Don't think I could afford to buy anymore software though right now.

SX3 reports 1660 samples delay in the plugin information window (I'm using it at 44.1 kHz) .

By the way, the plugin parameters can adjusted by the host's automation (and hardware controller if it has one), so that may be one way to workaround the unusable demo.

149$ for existing vintage warmer customers, maybe I shouldn't have tried the demo :hihi: and it uses quite a lot of processing power on my machine too.

Had a go with it and actually it sounds OK. It's impossible to demo properly of course, but I was pleasantly suprised.

Thanks cold c - I can adjust the knobs just fine in real time using Sonar4 automation envelopes.

hmmm...MasterComp sounds pretty good so far, they might have something here. Early thoughts are it has a kind of T-Racks compression feel (different sound though) but with more control and without the 'trademark' saturation. Nothing like Ozone3 or transparent things like that...In other words I think I'll be able to get some musical character out of this one - here's hoping.

But that 'FAT' mode chews up a full 30% of my 2.6GHz P4...I'll see what they have to say about that - maybe it can be trimmed down a little!

So, is this like Vintage Warmer with new knobs?

Just kidding.

hehe - It looks like it compliments VW.

I believe I would put MasterComp on a full mix, VW on some tracks if I needed that sound.
