I think that it should still have a keyboard, but not the Cheap SynthEdit Looking one that is on it now. Replace it with a nice and even flush looking one and it would do wonders for the GUI! Plus some people like me who actually like using the mouse it makes it alot easier to go through presets quickly when you have a virtual keyboard on the synth. I use my Midi Keyboard too, but it's a hell of alot faster with the mouse.
I use my pc keyboard for that, thanks. For testing sounds its perfect (in FL studio though, dont know if other hosts allow this).

Or you could just DL the set of banks I've already converted and weeded through, posted earlier in this thread. ;) It's quite exhaustive and comprehensive on everything available via the net, with no bank dupes, and very few preset dupes.

edit: Included link....Also much appreciation goes to tomg for his early work on this effort ;)

Really, with this one (while being an absolutely brilliant representation of both the sound and the interface of the original) it shows how far computer-optimized GUIs have gone.
I don't have anything against a decent pseudo-realism coming with a GUI, but in this case i can't see why a) the interface couldn't be a tad bigger and b) why there couldn't be more controls on one page, such as for example, all OSC parameters on one page, all envelopes on one page, all LFOs on one page, etc., you get the idea.
It might have been a proper interface for a hardware synth, but in software land it's really sub par, so an alternate GUI (a la Ohmforce or so) might be an idea.
yea the UI could be improved. feel free to send him an email and volunteer me i guess... i really wish the tracktion bug would go away though.. that bothers me alot. whenever i try to use the plug in T2 it bounces all over the place. this must be something unique to T2 because the plug works fine in eXT, sonar, cantabile, etc.

Yes, the SX3 bug is a little annoying too, have to keep closing and reopening a project to get keyboard function back. Be nice when this is fixed.

That'd be great to see a Grymmjack skin on this one, I'm sure you'll do a bang up job of it - love your latest Oatmeal skin(s) BTW :tu:

DL'ed this a couple weeks ago. Finally decided to try it tonight. I'm using Tracktion. AAARRRGGGHHHHHHH

I bought an ESQ1 new back in the day (1985 or 1986). Replaced it with my Ensoniq VFX-SD in 1989. Still my controller keyboard!

Cool.
I'd like to volunteer myself but I'm too busy with my Daedalus
and Frank (totc) probably want me for the PS-1 update so...

Tried this, its excellent!

Some very nice sounds, especially the pads (without being complex).

However, yeah it is buggy. In FLS I can't see the complete GUI, its like it doesn't expand the wrapper window. Also when playing with the keyboard, I can only go up to a the E4 note. Is this the same for everyone else?

EDIT: not only that, the octaves are all over the place. If I play up the keyboard the next octave is actually one lower, rather than higher - VERY STRANGE!

Without checking there maybe a transpose option buried in there and also the keyboard behaviour maybe intentional for that patch.

I figured it out. Its after I touch the GUI keyboard, it seems to mess things up!

I am using the built in keyboard in FLS btw (which uses the qwerty keyboard), I just tried it with Bomes Mouse Keyboard and it works fine. Must just be buggy with FLS.

What does the PANIC button do? It has been cut off.

Wow.
This baby sounds wonderful. Just wonderful. I really dig it.
Unfortunately I can't stand using it. It's impossible.
I'm also experiencing the jumpy GUI problem mentioned by bk, monopoli and grymmjack.
I'm not using Tracktion 2, but Tracktion 1.
As they've already described, everytime you, say, approach the scroll buttons for the presets from the bottom with your cursor, the GUI jumps instantaneously to right below your cursor. Move it down to the button and the GUI jumps right away to just above your cursor. Madness that way lies.
Also a couple of the knobs just plain won't turn.
It's a real pity, because it sounds freakin' great and as everyone else has said, it is indeed supernaturally light on CPU.
The author has done a outstanding job, but I sure hope these bugs get worked out soon. I'd love to be able to use it. :(

About the jumpinggui problem in Tacktion: if you load it within Chainer, it works just fine.

That's a solution for quite a few synth problems.

It works fine here in FL6+Win2K....and what a thing of beauty it is. Having an SQ-80 for comparison, it is indeed very close...especially considering that the patches are being loaded from original sysex banks and not tweaked for authenticity. The filter is a tiny bit weak, and its hard to tell how it responds to control, but it is very nice.

I'm sure someone has mentioned this in the 30+ pages -- but what an awesome tool this is for an SQ80 owner -- like having a vst front-end for a vintage synth. Right now I only use it for patch previewing, then export to my sq, but that alone is a very valuable resource, as I don't have to eat up any of my (meagre) presets in order to preview. Hallelujah!

The possibilities with a full gui are astounding -- tweak the patch in vst form (using the knobs on my axiom) then send the patch --> sq80. I don't care if he ever gets the filter just right -- I have the filter just right sitting right here  .

Oh, and about the gui...I really hope it emulates the sq80 front panel -- the most intuitive synth ever. A gui like that would also work excellently with modern midi controllers -- 8-16 continuous controllers mapped to the soft knobs. Its like the two were made for each other.

Have I mentioned that this thing works excellent in FL6, which doesn't even handle sysex???? Now my host works as a programmer/librarian for my synth and it's easy. Take that Logic environment! We don't need no stinkin' Cakewalk studio panel. This works better. Make one for my Matrix 6 and JX8p next! Holy crap I'm getting too excited here.
And all life's fears

I can handle it

Sometimes the installer screws up. You'll need to crank up regedit and fix the local_keys. The instruction are in the readme.
