Actually, try the "Clean Clavinet" preset. That one struck me as DX-like, though a better quality, without the heavy artifacts.
I always considered 54-40 more "driving music" than "new wave".

As Winston Churchill said: " Nevah surrender Cory, Nevah!' (Trust me, it sounds better when you do a Winnie imitation-reall!)

So how's about that Aldo Nova? :-)

Careful ;) , I got 4 years of film school! Taught myself C while there actually. Go figure.

faux umlauts, dont'cha know. Umlauts are an endangered species-can't go hunting them on the ice flows any more! :(

umnaughts?

Heh, reminds me, there used to be a local kinda-parody heavy metal band called Güelph! (name of a town just outside Toronto, though the umlauts were added for awesome heavy metal effect!)

This thread is either hilarious or outrageous, depending on when you get it!

54·40 went on to kind of bite it, it must be said. I was just putting that up there as a song that I was like, "WOW" when it came out. They weren't really big in the synth department, so I wasn't trying to tie it into the whole Poly-Ana thing. For some reason, I can't shake the kind of Rush-using-an-Oberheim vibe with Poly-Ana; but I must concede that could be total placebo from me a)knowing it's Canadian, and b) that awesome Tom Sawyer preset (which I managed to sneak onto a track on my band's album, last minute, before mastering! :D ).

You know, I can't think of a single Canadian New Wave band that I actually like; Canada did the 80's so hardcore, they're all a little jokey, after the fact. I mean, Martha and the Muffins? Rough Trade? Ugh. :help:

(Sorry: Ügh. ) :hihi:

Heh, I actually still like a lot of that old Cancon-wave. Re-listened to some Spoons recently and found stuff I still like. I've been recently appreciating Honeymoon Suite more than I ever did back in the day. And certainly some old Men Without Hats stuff. It's kinda perfect happy synth pop, and more than a few times I've found myself suddenly playing Saftey Dance and Where Do The Boys Go when I get fast attack Rolandy saw pads going.

I could think of more. I even liked some M&tM.

Oh and I like the spooky 80's vibe too. Payolas did that a lot. Even super pop like Bryan Adams had that vibe sometimes. It was a dark time in a way, reflected in the music. Nuclear war is going to start next week, let's dance to gloom-rock!

And yeah, Rush is a big one. Uber-8 was my other Rush inspired patch. Play Subdivisions with it!

Subdivisions! Yes, exactly; Moving Pictures is too obvious... :hihi: And Men Without Hats, of course. How could I forget? They do have some good stuff. I even like the Pop Goes The World stuff; somehow loveable in its über-1988 overproduction. Ah..."Big Bonhomme"....

I'm gonna check out those patches right now...

I'm getting the undeniable urge to listen to Images In Vogue for some reason. ;)

Anyway haven't checked out your synth yet AQ but definitely plan to soon.

Ummm, why did I post in this thread :/

God I love wikipedia. If you programmed its contents into a relational database you'd have an A.I. that (who?) would be VERY interesting to go for beers with.

This could be how The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy started, you know...or the Skynet Project...
