So I'm diving in with Amplitube 3, and this will be the first IK product I've bought, so no complaints yet. But if I were an Amplitube 2 owner I'd be screaming bloody murder right now. An $199 upgrade?

My take is the exactly opposite. I would suggest you wait until a group buy, or at least until AmpliTube 3 is in the retail stores. Since you have no return customer incentives, you'll get a much better price from someplace like esoundz than you will from IK Multimedia direct.

But as far as the upgrade price, AmpliTube 3 includes Metal and Hendrix, whether or not you already own them, plus it adds a full bundle of all new gear. There are more new models in every category in AmpliTube 3 than either Hendrix or Ampeg SVX offer in their entirety. So it is really like buying a new AmpliTube edition at the typical price, and getting the upgrade and the other existing editions for free.

I really don't see it as a bad deal at all. But of course, I also got all of my AmpliTube stuff for free when I bought my StealthPedal (at the price of a single edition), including Ampeg SVX, which is still sold separately. So I'm certainly not complaining, even though I already have it all (except for those new models I'm drooling over!)

Dang, I thought I deleted my post quickly enough , but I've been reading all day about Amplitube3 and it does not include all the Metal & Hendrix stuff. It includes some of it. The IK guy here in this thread stated that the Hendrix & Fender stuff had to be limited because of "understandable" copyright issues.

But I was just saying that $300+ is an expensive software buy - especially if you're a guitarist that tends to lean toward our own rigs (most of us do). I kust feel like this is the time to go for it, and I did (yes, $299) but I'm skittish about it.

No, every single piece of Metal and Hendrix is included. Check out http://www.ikmultimedia.com/amplitube/interface/. It's all there.

It's the official Fender and Ampeg editions that are not included because of licensing agreements with those two companies. Both will integrate into AmpliTube 3 right out of the box though, if you purchase them separately.

Ok, we know the modeling in Amplitube Fender is very good but I think Metal and Hendrix already sound great so, why were they were re-modeled? Was it so they can integrate into the new Amplitube 3 architecture? If so, does this mean that SVX has been redone as well? SVX is already damn near perfect to my ears

I won't assume that the revamped (older) models are "better" until I actually hear them. What worked for AT Fender doesn't necessarily equate to better models for the others. Or, maybe it does? Someone take me to school if I'm missing something.

While the AT 2 models will certainly benefit from the upgrade, The Hendrix emulations are REALLY good already! It will be interesting to see how it shakes out in side by side comparisons which I'm sure there will be o' plenty

Of course, we can always use multiple versions but I am dreaming of AT 3 being the one-stop-shop for Amplitube going forward. I'm hoping that late Feb. is still on target?

That's most certainly a misunderstanding - I never said anything of the sort that I can see but maybe something got misinterpreted. All of the Hendrix models are there, remastered. Fender is still a separate product. I see this has been corrected already but wanted to make sure that it was crystal clear. This is a massive upgrade, even the Hendrix and Metal (and AmpliTube 2!) models being remastered and all the speakers being redone (with the ability to have two freely moveable mics and the new room setup on top of that) is a part of what we're offering here on top of new models.

My apologies, I'd been reading about Amplitube 3 for hours and this thread was so loooong. Anyway I've pre-ordered it, and hope I love it. And I know I'm going to want the Fender thingy. It's just a lot of money for software for guitarists who have many options and I'm rattled.

The new mic and room solution features two freely movable microphones on each cabinet and a room section where you can choose room types, adjust the width, pan, and amount of the room sound, and more. Our cabinets/speakers have been impulse-based in the past which is something that seems to slip through the cracks. These remain impulse based as well and there is no built-in method to load external impulses.
