You only need to activate it once per new installation. If you installed a second copy of AmpliTube on your laptop, for example, you simply go to your account menu in the Custom Shop application, and click the "Restore My Gear" tab. Every piece of gear associated with your AmpliTube Custom Shop serial number will be automatically unlocked inside AmpliTube 3.5.
Wait, does that mean if I "waste" an authorization for the internet machine I can transfer demos and bought models to my (constantly offline) DAW ?
That would be a PITA, but a compromise I might grudgingly accept as long as you're cool about a new set of authorizations (free of course) on request in case of a hardware change.
In any case, my DAW won't go online and my internet computer can't play guitar, this won't change in the foreseeable future.

as I read the part in bold I think it's saying that if you put AT on your laptop as well then you have to go online with that laptop as well, hiw 'restore my gear' and everything will be authorized. Otherwise how would AT unlock something a computer that is not online.

I kept my DAW offline for years but I had to allow it to go online so that PC-Audiolabs could remotely do some work for me, since I have allowed it online a couple of times (bought the machine in 06 and its been online less than yearly) and at that time I do updates as well. I understand your position because it's not as much a safety thing as it is a pita. I do not have any protection software running in my DAW, auto updates are off, the firewall is off, the network/internet card is disabled etc...so there is a lot I have to do first.

Of course when I go online I have my firewall on and I update norton first, update windows second, do what I have to do and get offline. Then I shut everything back down that I enabled to go online, clear my cache and do a full system scan with norton. It's far more work than I want to go through so I only do it if I have no other choice. AT 3.5 will have to be the holy grail of sims for me to go through that :hihi:

It seems to be getting more and more like DRM/downloadable content for computer games.
I don't think so.
Afaics this is only Magix and now maybe IK.
This model has no future, certainly not for me and my colleagues, none of us has an online connection for the DAW.
No big deal, I can always buy a new stompbox or whatever for the money I couldn't spend here.

I installed Amplitube 3 Free on my internet machine so I could check out the Custom Shop. I'd probably pick up the Soldano and the Tiny Terror today if I new there was a way they could be authorized on my DAW machine. Maybe even a pedal or two. Oh well.

Magix? I did not have to go online to update to Samp 11 pro, I may have had to do a firmware update for the codemeter but I would have done that on my laptop.

Not necessarily.
Take UA, the software contains all available plugins (much like AT afaik), you buy something online, download a new authorization file containing all your licenses, double click it on the offline PC and that's it.
Easy, quick and customer friendly. :tu:
They also handle demo resets that way.

I understand that, FL does the same thing....that's just not how I read what Brian said

Probably only the consumer line.
I remember campaigning for quite a while when Samplitude Free (!) required a direkt www connection for authorization. Thankfully Sascha (great guy !) filled me in on an undocumented complicated workaround back then.

The present model of selling ampsim suites has no future either.

The market is saturated with amp sims. No one is going to spend 3-350 bucks on an amp sim suite anymore. And there is a lot of excellent freeware happening these days.

This is IK's attempt to extract coin from a glutted market.

It'll be interesting to see what Native Instruments/Guitar Rig, Peavey/Revalver etc will do in the future.

The $64,000 question still remains. Where you at, playa?

+1 trillion except I replace revalver (will never give them one red cent) with VANDAL. However VANDAL is not a sim, it's a virtual amp and the difference is quite clear to those of us with plenty of real amp experience.

I'm trying to decide on whether to sell AT3 but it probably wont be worth the effort :?

Fwiw, I think the real enemy is hardware, still.
Tube pres and little recording amps cost about the same s/h as one of the big ampsim packages, so people start comparing.
I'd gladly pay $100 for e.g. a single, 99% convincing 2203 incl. 1960 w. Greenbacks for example, 6 knobs, 2 inputs, maybe a choice of 3 mics.
The key word here is "99% convincing".
Here everybody still has a looong way to go, and IK sure is among the best (in software).
But we discussed this before ...

I agree but with an *...you see for 15 years I was in the position of not being able to mic a cab. First the sansamp was my saving grace and then the PODs so I can 100% empathize with those who cannot go with hardware and AT3 is a great way to go for those who need itb (though a little heavy on the cpu). But now that I have a choice between the two hardware is going to win out, especially now that my building confidence is growing.

However I retract my questioning whether to sell AT3, it's still great and I still like it a lot so I'm only hurting myself if I do so. I will wait until I know it's safe and download the 3.5 version to keep current but it's doubtful I will go after any more models. :)
