The LuSH-101 has a lot more features, but when compared on equal terms, I must say they sound amazingly similar. Is this good or bad.. well.. it's down to the GUI size and what features you need to get a certain sound nailed when you need it.
BassLine-101 offers less features, but it's easier to program IMO, simply because it's easier to see what you do. LuSH-101 has more options and is without a shred of doubt the ultimate SH101 emu available, but for getting that typical SH101 sound for your layered bass, or that particular analog SH101 lead-sound, BassLine-101 does the trick - faster. It's not better than LuSH-101, but it's just as good when compared on equal terms, with the extra plus that it's got a GUI that's a tad more userfriendly.

Ok, finally tried it myself ... so this is how far i got before buying a softsynth after going "100% hardware" :p This synth sounds amazing!!!! Just using bkFX clipper and delay to get some grit and space ... such a hypnotic goa melody. Fantastic Tal!!!!

One other thing I like about Bassline. Getting a nice sequence going using the built in sequencer and then copying it out to a mid track.
It's a quick way to come up with bass lines and hypnotic sequences. Very cool.

Here's some dumb playing around with this synth, it sounds good to me, good synth.
First two are treated with reverb and delay, last one is a clean bass, no effects, no presets.

I was comparing the sound of Bassline to Thor (in Reason) and I've realised that the filter sounds very close.
Here is a simple experiment of sorts. Can you tell which is which.

(Apologies for my ugly mug in the soundcloud link. I don't know how to change it).

I think I hear aliasing on the first sample.

it's not aliasing but subtle analog distortions created by the nonlinearities.
the thor filter has much less and almost a linear feel.
also, if filter modulation settings are set alike on both, the thor filter is performing sluggishly cos it doesn't give that 0 delay feedback "knock" to the sound (old dsp filter). it's missing all the punch.

+1, yep, that is definitely not aliasing. Though my initial response was that it was. A good VA filter's self oscillation will interact with the oscillator signal (if present) and can give allsorts of weird ringing, ringmod/FM, scrapey sounds.olikana wrote:it's not aliasing but subtle analog distortions created by the nonlinearities.

That's what i guessed, yeah. Still sounding very similar, the two. Maybe Thor's filter was modelled on SH-101?olikana wrote:it's not aliasing but subtle analog distortions created by the nonlinearities.
