Hi folks,
so I finally bought this beast. And soundwise I'm very pleased so far. But I encountered the the following issues using the mangle on a windows 7 machine with Studio One as a host:
1. Drag and drop of audio files (wav-format) into the wave window doesn't work. Loading files via the import option (folder icon) does work fine though (not the biggest failure but since the Mangle has one of the most elegant user interfaces I have come across so far it would be nice if this could be fixed.
2. I used the MIDI learn function of Studio One which is generally OK but when I turn a knob clockwise on the keyboard the corresponding knob in the Mangle turns counterclockwise (just the other way round; well I could live with that).
Anyone else out there using the Mangle in Studio One? (Hope the Sound-Guru will cure these little inconveniences some day; but no hurry - would be fine if the final release adress my problems.
Anyway this machine is something like an early Christmas gift at the current price. Think I'm gettin' a Grainiac

Hi Simon,
did you know that your lovely Mangle-Demo on Youtube pushed me to buy it in the end? You're one of the most talented sound designers on the planet today IMHO. Anyone who doesn't know you should at least have a look (or an ear) at patchpool. May be you are the Godfather of all Grainiacs so to speak.
Regards from Germany, Wilfried

Bought it too. Few observations:
- Preset files are crazy big. Come on, 190 MB archive for this little plugin?
- Adding keyboard split to each and every preset is quite questionable
- Position area parameters are displayed zeroed after host restart, but it seems their value is ok
- Volume and position markers shouldn't be drawn on sample area, it results in numerous misclicks. Also dragging markers around makes sample play, which is completely counter-intuitive for me.
Suggestions:
- Please add option to play loaded sample clean.
- It would be cool to add option which wraps grains around "position" area and and to dispaly loop speed in Hz

How does it compares to granulator?

Very different, and far more superior imo. Way more modulation possibilities, granular engine sounds better and smoother, up to 8 granulators, etc.rod_zero wrote:How does it compares to granulator?

I think they complement each other. Granulator with loop, scan and FM options can make completely weird, trashy effects (as well as rolls and risers), while Mangle is aimed at more melodic content. Still, Mangle has the envelopes of common synths, so should be able to do all the hoovers, squelches and wobbles as well as regular wavetable instruments.rod_zero wrote:How does it compares to granulator?
Keep in mind that I'm new to granular synthesis and don't even plan to use it in current track.

Great synth so far! Works very well for me (Windows 8.1 x64, Renoise 3.0.1) and i really like the minimalistic looking GUI. I have just one question, one bug report, one feature request and one personal request.
Question: It is possible to set "markers" via [Alt]+left mouse click, what are they good for?
Bug: Right mouse click on slot trigger opens context menu, but also "holds" the trigger which is very annoying especially with long sustain times because you have to left click the trigger again to disable it. Maybe it is not a bug but a feature, in this case the context menu shouldn't pop up if you right click on the slot trigger but only on the slot (volume slider).
Feature req: Please add more audio outputs, this would be awesome.
Personal req: Please keep the synth clean and stable, please don't add unnecessary features/fx like delay/reverb or such things that can be downloaded in masses (unless it's something very special).

BTW good idea, i think it would be a first grain sampler with multiple outputs (for each voice, well or layer).spktkpkt wrote: Feature req: Please add more audio outputs,
Also agree. Additional processes is good, but it looks like this is the rare case when it can hurt. Really better to concentrate all efforts on granular engine.please don't add unnecessary features/fx like delay/reverb or such things

Is this referring to KTgranulator?Neon Breath wrote:Very different, and far more superior imo. Way more modulation possibilities, granular engine sounds better and smoother, up to 8 granulators, etc.rod_zero wrote:How does it compares to granulator?
