Personally the Grid and Max4Live are only passingly interesting to me.
I find regular use for Note Grid. It's an excellent midi utility. Want to remap one CC number to another, or block a specific CC#, or add an expression curve for AT, or change the midi channel of certain notes it is easy to do. Bitwig has a simple Latch Note FX, but sometimes I want more flexible rules when it latches or doesn't and Note Grid makes it easy enough that I can make a custom latch... and so on.
I admit I’ve been swamped and haven’t had a chance to really look into the note grid. One more prop for m4l though is that there’s already a simple SysEx dump m4l plug in for storing a patch from a hardware synth directly in Live. I have some vague hope that they added that function but I doubt it. Hopefully I’m wrong about that. :)

[edit] Looks like that's a a big nope. IMO this is such an annoying glitch on their part. There are dozens of hardware synths out now than support SysEx, and it's almost a no brainer that it would be super useful to have a Luncher clip that fired off the patch you used in the song. But nope, modular synths are repped for CV, but poly synths etc. are ignored.

On how many projects you need to work at the same time??
If Bitwig would offer PiP... this would change it...
In Bitwig it´s just a wonky workaround for me to copy/paste stuff from one project into the other...
Live has the nice ability to drag ENTIRE tracks/groups to the browser to save them...not just some single clips with huge limitations... or browse complete projects to be able to import tracks and groups directly from the browser...

Is there a Grid module able to that?? (to speak in your manner...)
I can add an arpeggiator on the same track as my synth in Bitwig. (Is there a M4L device for that?)
You opened the door... Yes, every native and M4L midi device can be inserted onto the same track
So... meaningless...
As you obviously mean VST Arps... I don´t know if this is really anadvantage or if the splitted track method of Live isn´t more flexible at the end...
Bitwig modulators can be per voice (polyphonic). Neither Live nor M4L can do that.
M4L devices can modulate anything anywhere without any wonky workarounds... Neither Bitwig nor it´s modulators can do that...

We can continue this list endlessly... of course every programm has it´s advantages and it´s shortcomings

It will be interesting to see if Live add CLAP in the next update, I suspect they will.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Really??
I doubt it as it doesn´t have anything useful for Ableton in general... in Bitwig it´s different because of their modulation system and that it is/was a selling point for their system but what motivation should Ableton have for now??
I would be positive surprised though! :tu:

I use multiple projects all the time. It's great to be able to quickly do something in a new project without having to close the main project I'm working on.

I was responding to someone who said for every Bitwig advantage, there was a M4L device that was better. So I listed a few things for which there is no M4L alternative.

You can browse projects in Bitwig and import individual groups and tracks as well.

You can also save Tracks/Groups to the browser in Bitwig... You can select a time range in the project, covering whatever number of tracks you want and save that. You can save Launcher Scenes as well.

When I see responses like this I realize why Live, developed to play live, never got any real solution to using multiple Sets live. It seems like playing live isn't what most people use Live for.

btw. quite interesting that even has shortcuts

although would be much better without the Active Audio Engine parts as Reaper is able to handle the different tabs (they even can be embedded into each other as subprojects which is pretty cool IMO)

I can open multiple Live projects (as instances) at once. Would prefer the Bitwig tabbed style tho.

My MIDI VSTs are wrapped as M4L MIDI Devices. One can even create a GUI that acts like a Live device but I just have an "open" button for now. I was fookin delighted when I discovered this. (obv. would be convenient to be able to have multiple "instruments" on a track ala Bitwig)

M4L can do MPE therefore it can do per-voice stuff. Not as easy as Grid (obviously)

I have got WAY more mileage from M4L than I ever got from Grid. (And it's never crashed for me, not that Grid did either)

Overall I find Live is annoying while BWS is infuriating. (I forget what infuriates me tho, lol.)

You cannot add a M4L modulator (LFO, Env, etc.) and modulate a Live Instrument per voice (polyphonic). It is global only (monophonic).

Bitwig modulators can be polyphonic with Bitwig Instruments... and now with CLAP plugins that support PolyMod.

Never saw this... my bad if so...

I watched this video yesterday it got me thinking in switching to Bitwig .

^^^ for me Protoculture's changing (after 10 years of Cubase usage ... on the video) was the biggest motivation

if Nate can be happy with then it can't be a wrong choice :D

ui. btw. dunno why everybody set the contrast ratio of BWS so depressive with 0 Midtone, 90 Blacklevel looks much nicer or friendlier

Never mind that video. Hands-on experience is inevitable for choosing a DAW. I’ve been testing BW for a long time, as an Ableton user, and the more you know your primary DAW the harder it is to switch 100%.
Of course, if you are not a power user of your primary DAW then it’s much easier to switch…
