VA rats. Surely no negativity there dude. :tu:
Yeah, I don't see the point in bashing the Triton when its the same as its hardware counterpart. I mean, everyone knows what a Triton is, and how does it sound like. so what's the surprise? Why bash it? Is there a point comparing it to VA stuff? I don't think so. but this place often goes to places where laser focused threads become offtopic and filled with useless comparisons which make it impossible to separate the wheat from the chaff. so yeah, VA rats. :hihi:

I think you're making a lot of assumptions.
Teksonik made some fair points.

Anyway, carry on. I have no interest in it; I was mainly responding to someone who called it the best vst ever. Which was somewhat over the top.

a best ever is always very subjective. but I would agree that the Triton is one of the best workstations in ROMpler history.

It's great. '90s rap on the other hand is terrible imho.

Gangsta's Paradise doesn't have a Triton on it :hihi:

btw, one remark I do have though is that the plugin is still badly optimized. it should be lightweight, there aren't many "calculations" it should perform.

I like that one but all the other s*it I checked out is terrible. ''The Game - Put You On The Game'' etc.

Do you think DJ Paul used it?

I think it sounds pretty cheesy. I like Korg's hardware, but not their software. Monopoly & Odyssey vst are OK, ms-20 is pretty weak and this Triton sounds cheesy. Add to this that their UI's are really out of date (although they promised to do something about it years ago) and you have a softsynth collection that is a weak brother in comparison to other software collections out there.

I like their hardware though and very pleased they are taking on the ARP-2600.
But their software is not getting much love and it shows imo.
If they added some other ARP synths, ARP 2600 would be of course the first choice (and I would myself share the general opinion), but I think that it would be again extremely expensive, and there is another one for which I would vote : the ARP Quadra.

I've had enough of the rap sewer for one day. Google does reveal that DJ Paul used ''MPC 4000, MPC 2000xl, Korg TR Rack, Korg Triton Rack, and I forget what kind of keyboard''.

Teksonik is right of course. If you're into all those wobbles and risers and such that make up the modern EDM garbage, then you probably won't like Triton much. Triton was a player's instrument like many other ROMpler workstations from the time.
Here's our favorite keyboard player with a Triton:

Those ROMpler workstations can pull off many great sounds if you put some effort into it. The programming and expressiveness of sounds in some of the Korg, Ensoniq and EMU synths at the time was often nothing short of amazing, especially considering the limited sample ROMs. Triton is no exception in that regard. With VST's it's much harder to find synths that actually have useful sounds out-of-the box.

I've always liked ROMplers because it's very easy to get news sounds without having to start from scratch. Take a sound, replace the PCM waves, maybe tweak some other bits, combine with another sound in a layer, and you might have a great and useful sounds.

No, it's a synthesizer with sample based Oscillators. It has all the necessary ingredients to make sounds such as Filters and ADSR etc etc etc....if you're capable of expanding your definition of synthesis beyond analog subtractive.

As for the CPU demand I'm running the demo on an i3 2100 and if it runs fine on this old system it will certainly run on my i7 8700K DAW without breaking a sweat.

I imagine any reasonably powered new CPU can handle this without an issue.....
I understand rom and sample-based synthesis just fine. I was just guessing that since this thing is using relatively small samples from decades ago into an engine that ran on the super weak DSP of the time, then it should be super light on any even semi modern computer. Just curious if that’s the case or not.

Also has anybody checked if the samples get fully loaded into ram for playback?
