When trying to load a bunch of instances of Jun-6 for the One Synth Challenge, instances load extremely slow, crash Studio One sometimes, and when I try to add even more instances or other Arturia plugins they load without the GUI.

Interesting, thanks. I have to say it still doesn’t sound even remotely like a Minimoog though. Compare it to The Legend, Monark, Softube Model 72, or Moog’s own Model D (iOS app) and it sounds completely flat and lifeless. But since that one’s already been done really well by several others, Arturia should focus their energy elsewhere.Examigan wrote: Fri Jan 22, 2021 9:31 pm Part of the Mini-V were re-worked a while back also:

IMO, if they're going to have it in their collection, and if they are going to call it a Minimoog, then it should probably at least sound like a Minimoog, no? I welcomed the enhancements in the past and I look forward to any enhancements that may come in the future, especially as new internal developments to their code base come online. Bring it on, I say.

Recently I've been getting really slow loading times when first dropping in instances of both OB-Xa V and DX7 V. I don't remember them taking so long to load before. It happens in multiple DAWs, so it's not the host. Very annoying, though.briefcasemanx wrote: Fri Jan 22, 2021 10:44 pm When trying to load a bunch of instances of Jun-6 for the One Synth Challenge, instances load extremely slow, crash Studio One sometimes, and when I try to add even more instances or other Arturia plugins they load without the GUI.

Similar experience about very slow plugin load at first instance i have too (for any of v plugs, even FX), well, just thought it's just for me, so, considered it as not so critical (with my hdd). And v7 here though (but i think its relevant). Interesting that i remember read in one of plain v collection updates was mention about speedup of plugins loading, but it seems occurs some contra effect.
Can only assume that it related with tons of image files, what vary from 10 to 40 thousands per plugin (with weight approx 150-500mb resp). And all this should load to RAM, so..

You may be right but to be fair you have to compare it with the real MiniMoog , not with Legend, Monark, etc. This is copy-paste of a comment I read recently in another forum from a person that did the real side-by-side comparison.Arashi wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 3:42 amInteresting, thanks. "This is just a general observation. I recently repaired a Moog Voyager and had it in my studio for a while. This is something many cannot do but I compared it to Arturia Mini V. Side by Side. If you are wondering is the actual Voyager way better then Mini V the answer is that it is not. In fact I can get the two of them sounding so close to each other its literally impossible to tell them apart. That says a lot about the quality of Arturia software. They HAVE done an amazing job of replicating these things. I can get Mini V to produce the same earth shattering floor shaking bottom end the Voyager does."

Maybe it's a coincident but lately I've installed Analog Lab V and since then my Ableton started to take about 5 minutes to open. I did some troubleshooting of Ableton process and I've discovered a lot, I mean thousands, of events Ableton reading this file: C:\ProgramData\Arturia\Presets\db.db3mholloway wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 6:53 amRecently I've been getting really slow loading times when first dropping in instances of both OB-Xa V and DX7 V. Everything went back to normal after I deleted that file.

I deleted that db.db3 file and then fired up Analog Lab V standalone. That database file was slowly rebuilt; the performance of the plug-in was degraded during this rebuilding process: a combination of network and disk input/output operations whose number is a high order of magnitude.
The metaphor here might be the plugin is being crushed by its own weight.

Mini V isn't terrible. It just isn't as good as the other emulations I mentioned.ecasasmusic2 wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 12:47 pm You may be right but to be fair you have to compare it with the real MiniMoog , not with Legend, Monark, etc. This is copy-paste of a comment I read recently in another forum from a person that did the real side-by-side comparison.

As for comparing it to a Voyager, well, the Voyager is not a Model D (it's a modern reimagining of it, and it wasn't well received), and it's not what Arturia was attempting to emulate. Fortunately, you don't have to own a Minimoog to know what they sound like, because it's the most famous synth of all time. They were so pervasive in the 70s and early 80s that many people called every synthesizer a "Moog" (in the same way that many people call all facial tissues "Kleenex").
Here's one of my favorite Minimoog basslines:
I've made this patch with Mini V, The Legend, Monark, Model 72, and Moog's own Model D app. The patch I made with Mini V sounds pretty decent…until I compare it with the other emulations, and then it's immediately obvious that it doesn't sound anywhere near as good.
I'd still say Arturia's version is good…it just has some really stiff competition and ends up in last place. Considering how good their new Jupiter-8 and Juno-60 emulations are, I'm sure they could do a much better Minimoog if they did a total rewrite in 2021…but I think that effort is better spent bringing some other classic synth back to life that hasn't already been done extremely well. I'd love to see them take another run at the CS-80. Their current emulation is good, but not great. Check out Dave Spiers' CS-80 video or Mathew Jonson's CS-60 video; the gap between emulation and hardware is pretty huge, and nobody else has done it better…yet.

Yeah, I agree with that, and I wouldn't want them to drop it from the collection (I've actually made a few patches I really like with it…they don't sound like a Minimoog, but they do sound cool). But they only have so many engineers and there are only so many hours in the day. That time is better spent making something you can't get anywhere else.Sequent wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 3:55 am IMO, if they're going to have it in their collection, and if they are going to call it a Minimoog, then it should probably at least sound like a Minimoog, no? I just discovered today that the thumbs-down button no longer appears on our posts.telecode wrote: Wed Jan 13, 2021 6:00 pmjust ignore the thumbs down feature. i have found is has no bearing on the content of posts. some of the most useful and helpful posts on KVR get thumbed down. there are basically morons on this site just clicking stuff to see if it works.tonedef71 wrote: Wed Jan 13, 2021 3:22 pm (and it seems that one individual is apt to thumbs-down my posts on the subject).

Yes. It's a great thing. The thumbs down button serves no useful purpose in a linear forum (as opposed to say, Reddit, where upvoting and downvoting actually moves comments up/down in the list), and in any case it mostly just gets abused by people being childish.tonedef71 wrote: Tue Jan 26, 2021 2:16 am I just discovered today that the thumbs-down button no longer appears on our posts.

Interesting. Of the synths you mentioned, which would you say got you the closest to an actual Minimoog Model D sound (assuming you have an accurate reference)? Over time, I've somehow collected the Mini V (the original and updated versions), Monark, Moog's Model D app, IKMM's Syntronik Memory-V (which I know is more of a Memorymoog emulation) and even a Behringer Model D -- all for free. I'm not a Moog enthusiast, but I'm always interested in learning about the synth and its history.Arashi wrote: Mon Jan 25, 2021 1:05 pmMini V isn't terrible. 1. How did you get all that for free?planetearth wrote: Tue Jan 26, 2021 3:51 amInteresting. 2. What's your opinion since you have a behringer as comparison, which seems to sound closer than any of the plugins?
----------
I have most of the minimoog plugins but I have no idea which sounds closest to the real thing but I personally think the Arturia moog stuff sounds completely fine.
