You forget that complains is a sport, LOL

100% with you there MrT. :tu:

It would be nice if the description posted to KVR was also the same text on the Soundcloud entry. I write my text FIRST on the Soundcloud entry description, then make the track public and enable downloads. Then, I cut and paste this text from the SC page to my KVR announcement, adding maybe a little blurb or story! This way OSC people can read the details on the KVROSC pages if they wish, but then other people who browse into my music can also see how the track was made.

Win win win for all I think. :D

I suspect that in the main, many seasoned OSC-ers can pick out a composer when they listen to a track. Occasionally being "surprised"! :D

So, complains == discussion, discussion != complains :D dB

it would make more sense to me if the voting page could pull the artist name and track title from the metadata on soundcloud, but apparently it ignores that and just goes by the name of the file you upload? weird, but ok. i'll make sure to use that workaround in the future, then.

... wait, no, i double checked and that is the track title from the metadata, not the file name. confusing. if the page can access metadata, why not pull artist name as well? some limitation from soundcloud? oh well, it is what it is, i suppose.

this was indeed a difficult round to score, almost feels like everyone is doing their own private competition with different rules. :D

Yeah, but I'm sure you know very well that life is not just black and white, LOL

Kinda often find myself chuckling at the post-submission voting time discussions, hehehe... they sort of really are pretty much always the same, aren't they? Having one about title and description is a nice change of pace, which also does happen from time to time.
If it was only for the fact that new artists join in again, yeah, makes sense. But that really isn't it at all, haha. As Liqih said perfectly correct: It's a sport! :hihi: :tu:

And, Rob, that's what I always do: First soundcloud description, then copy/paste KVR post. Easy and pleasant. I really love reading the descriptions on the songs. In the beginning it was an invaluable source of information. So many great plugins I never knew, suggesting interesting methods, too. I wished, everyone would simply go with it and write it all down, even if ever so roughly. I used to write the number of instances for everything, hahaha, but dropped it a while ago. You need not know if I used 10 x 4 Band EQ or 5 x Abstract Chamber or whatever. So... a rough overview over all the plugins used is excellent and plenty enough!

But we're like that, aren't we - confirming our positions (and selves!) through repetition? I mean, I have literally thousands of preconceived notions about architecture, urban planning and transport. My wife knows them all - she knows it, I know it - and yet I feel the need to reiterate every time we go for a walk and new projects pop up (thank God for her patience, though! )

I did the same thing - dropped the count. Anyway, it's mostly the same - minor eq adjustments on most of the individual tracks, a little broader eq sculpting on the buses, a bit of saturation buzz on stuff like snare, hat & bass, a couple of reverbs and delays on the sends - and compression/gate/dynamics depending on style.

Yup...kinda where we end up with it all. Though I'm often too lazy to really go into details. Sidechain kick, possibly make a reverb/delay bus with stereo mids ducked down, subtle EQ on many instances. I've strayed away from saturation/distortion for some reason, wanting to preserve more of the original sound, I guess. But I miss it a bit. Nice reminder to do that again. Especially on the drums, what I mostly have is a stronger EQ on the kick and snare, bringing them to where they need to come forward. Once upon a time I made a little MUX to create a panned micro delay and called it (cross_delay), which I almost always use on hihats and often on snare, too. Really helps nudge it in space.
A while ago I came across this delay effect that had ducking in it, which is such a simple and cool thing. I keep wanting to do that myself, but just forget about it all the time... eh... must make that a habit, I think.

Well, I mostly just repeat myself on philosophical matters, haha. I keep saying over and over again:"Beware of the things that inform your decisions, because your decisions are your life and are yours alone." ...and:"We come to Earth with our ever growing set of ideals, looking for ways to contribute with them and hoping to find a fit. So that one day we may find a heaven here that we can recognize again." ...I keep repeating that in so many ways, but it always feels like those around me hear it for the first time, hahahahaha... my bad.

schiing wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 4:04 pm Apropos of nothing: There's no way to do it within the current system, so it's just a whimsy - but wouldn't it be cool if the tracks were simply tagged #1-52 on the OSC page - no info, totally anonymous, no preconceptions!
This wouldn't work for me, since everyone puts their tracks in the topic of the current OSC first, we listen to them several times and... well, I would remember at least some of them, and this would only increase the prejudice by dividing the tracks into recognized and unrecognized. And recognition is a strong positive incentive in the context of, and in General, no wonder that modern pop music is widely exploited it! :hihi:

Also, I agree that we don't need an OSC number when it's one synth month (yes, almost always  ), but in those rare cases, like any synth or "hardware vs emulations", it would be convenient to see the synth in the track name

VOTED! *phew*
Some really amazing stuff as usual.

Unfortunately given the way I listen and vote I was unable to interact much with these tracks in terms of comments and likes and such.
To me it’s a real shame too because I feel like that is the most important part of something like this. Sure it’s a competition and someone will win and a handful of people will get a shiny new plugin. But to me I’ve always valued most the variety of feedback I get from participating here. I imagine most of us primarily make music alone (especially these days) and as such it can be easy to get lost in your own head (for better or worse).
The perspective of a variety of other musicians working in a similar vein and the community that can be built as a result to me is invaluable and what this kind of thing is all about.

So sorry if you didn’t hear anything from me. Next time I do this I’m going to try to find a time and space to listen that allows me to easily comment as I go. I might try to go back and share some of my thoughts but with 52 tracks, who knows.
Anyway, great work everyone!

On the topic of track names.
Sorry, I am one of those guilty of only putting the song name as my title.
I didn’t know it was a big issue and that it bothered people. I’ll have to go back and re-read the guidelines on track submissions because some of what’s been mentioned here about what should be included in the track description is kinda news to me.
In general I’m not a fan of putting my artist/username in my track name because on SoundCloud it’s so redundant and looks silly but if that’s the rule and it’s bugging people, I’ll comply. For me it’s never been an issue because I always have a separate browser window or the SoundCloud app open and it’s easy to see who’s who if need be. Then I just move stuff over on the voting page as I go. I guess a lot of people only listen from the voting page though and that’s why it might be an issue.

Many artists have different KVR usernames than their Soundcloud account for one reason or another. That's surely part of where the idea comes from, putting your KVR username into the song title, I guess. Definitely true for me, as I couldn't get "Taron" on SC.

Post

I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure you can have your soundcloud artist name be anything you want (I’m fairly certain I am not the only Local Man on SoundCloud for example). Your SoundCloud url (soundcloud.com/< this part here >) has to be unique though.
But you’re right, that still may be different than whatever one chooses to call themselves here on Kvr.
