Don't knock it till you try it. :)
I will never be able to afford one and yes I think it is clearly an elitist thing
I can't afford it, either. That doesn't stop me from wishing for one or enjoying it when I played it. Plus, in this mass market economy of ours, if it catches on, it'll some day be affordable.

btw, did you see that you can retrofit their fingerboard on to your own neck? As DIY as you are, I thought you might appreciate that.

but then that would mean a lot of new fingerboards for me* and I have experience trying to replace a fingerboard many, many years ago...yes I love diy but I also know my limits and without the proper tools and machines that is one thing I would not try again...especially with such a board. I dont see leveling those frets as anything I ever want to do in my life and it's possible that trying to do so would be just another costly lesson. ;)

*fwiw this is a personality trait for me, because of it's nature if I loved it I would want to use it on every guitar

YES! I finally got the stealth version as well

Got it at a great price (£599 minus the case) The white MIJ 1 cost me about £850 last year. I wouldn't have been willing to fork out £850 for another, now that they're made in China instead of Japan. But the Chinese made Stealth actually feels slightly better in quality than the MIJ one.

I'll have to get a side by side pic up.
When I first saw these come out I thought, "How ugly is that, with the weird looking headstock and strange body shape?! Hmm." Then...I played one at Guitar Center, and...wow! I really get it now and regardless of how ugly it is, I REALLY want one. These guitars are remarkably comfortable, fast, and feel as good as anything I've played. Typically, I don't care for overwound pickups but somehow, I like them in this guitar. The problem, for me, is that I don't want "Made in China" at THAT price :? If I can find a MIJ model of a tobacco sunburst with the floyd, I'm IN! :D 8)

I think they look great. But They never have them around here to try.

I feel much the same way Rich, but I wouldn't let the china thing influence me if I liked it. In my ebay feed I have MM on my list but the truth is I'm not seeing me adding anymore guitars for at least a year or so...still I watch, but really only for a "fixer upper". So the pups dont matter, but I would want a rose on it and I too like a tobacco sunburst but I did see a very nice natural finished one and also a purple one that looked surprisingly nice :)

btw congrats Peevy2000 :tu:

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's an ugly guitar but when I 1st saw one I thought it was a pretty strange & unique kind of guitar. I actually wouldn't have considered getting one before getting the EVH 5150 III, which is IMO an amazing amp. This actually got my interest peaked in taking another look at the Wolfgang, reading lots of reviews & watching a lot of demo videos.

So I took a chance & ordered the white one. When it arrived & I got to see it with my own eyes, I thought it was actually quite a beautiful guitar. Its very comfortable to play, thanks to its compactness, with a pretty low action & smooth fast playing neck (not too thin not too thick)

As for production being moved to China, that kinda pissed me of a bit too. Especially the fact that Fender weren't going to reduce the price accordingly. That's why I snapped up the MIJ one when I had the chance. A few stores in the UK have the price reduced now by about £150. When I saw the case-less stealth going for about £250 less, I couldn't resist. The quality of the MIC stealth is just as good as the MIJ, maybe even slightly better (tone pots a bit on the stiff side though).

I just love this wee guitar, some people go for Les Pauls, others Strats or Teles. I'm sticking with the Wolfgang...not that I'd stick to playing it 100% exclusively.....there'll be others...Self confessed guitar addict :hyper: (I'd love it if they did a 7 string Wolfgang)

The pickups it comes with are the only place I may end up spending money. First thing to go will be the weak, thin gauge strings for some with something to dig into

I'm excited about this one
NICE! :tu:

I like the Musicman version quite a bit. It's headstock looks better and it's a great combination of form and function. Still, the MIJ Stealths seemed like a great deal.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they were always being made in China and the Japanese factory was simply doing final assemblies and slapping "Made in Japan" stickers on them, such as how Korean factories are doing with PRS SE's.

I've always been disappointed with Chinese and Indonesian made guitars. I've owned a few and I've played more then a few. Made in Korea guitars are also slipping in quality and from what you just stated that may be the reason.

Not to bring politics in here but if you want to know why quality in Korean guitars is falling watch this.

While I've had a few really nice Samicks for the price, I'm actually ashamed that I own A cort made guitar. My beloved Parker P44 assembled at the Cort factory.

Ex-Cort employees demonstrate at NAMM every year. I've visited over 20 factories in China and they've all had good working conditions, about the same as factories in the US. Being half Chinese/half caucasian myself, I can say without concern for political correctness that there are cultural reasons for the low quality products that often times come out of China (we'll go ridiculously far to save a buck. ;)), particularly when Westerners go over there without understanding that. Korean and Japanese companies tend to get better quality products out of China than American companies do.

Ok, well, since you are the expert, how are they now? Seems like a ton of coin for a Chinese guitar considering the rap. Then again, I've bought a couple of "over priced" indo ibbys so.......

I swear, the best way to buy a guitar is blindfolded without any knowledge of the brand of the guitar
