I worked as a computer tech with a guy who could perfectly immitate Geddy Lees whiney singing voice.

There was this one obnoxious salesman type that we all hated. Whenever he walked by the tech room, the guy I worked with would start singing-"...the sound OF SALESMEN! SALESMEN!" at the sales drone. Drove Sammy Sales nuts! (But we killed ourselves laughing!!! )

Ah, the good old days! :-)
You know, I can't think of a single Canadian New Wave band that I actually like; Canada did the 80's so hardcore, they're all a little jokey, after the fact. I mean, Martha and the Muffins? Rough Trade? Ugh. :help:
(Sorry: Ügh. ) :hihi:
Echo Beach?

Carol Pope in Rough Trade was one scary biatch, I tell ya!

She just walked passed me a few months ago at a rehearsal space in Vancouver. You know she used to be a dude? :-o

 to "...the sound OF SALESMEN! SALESMEN!" - I can hear that perfectly in my head, and now I really wish I could hit that register...

Aw c'mon guys. That's not very nice. (Except the SALESMEN! part, which is very nice.) Nobody who was in Cold Toast or Rough Trade are going to buy my software now. :P

What are the chances that those guys went to art school!?!
Careful ;) , I got 4 years of film school! Taught myself C while there actually. Go figure.
There is a difference between going to art school and having that art school 'artiste' attitude, chip on their shoulder.

can't wait for a mac release. (universal binary, of course)

I can't wait either. :(

ASAP! (That means maybe within a year.)

i'd love it if poly-ana did pitch-tracking, i.e. if i was able to trigger the synth via incoming audio such as my voice or a guitar.

if you don't know how to go about it, maybe magnus of cloneesemble.com can help - his aliensolo synth is a pretty cool voice-triggered synth.
i also like doing this with my korg ms-20 vst - great fun. 8)

either way, still love the synth to bits

I spent a couple days on this already and got pretty close, but considered it not quite ready for prime-time and needed to move on to more pressing issues. It's on the wish list though so don't be surprised if it turns up in a future release.

There are 3rd party pitch-to-MIDI plugins available though, probably even some free ones?

Post

yeah, for the past hours (long past my bedtime, too - will be a wreck tomorrow morning  :D ) i've been doing this in bidule - you can do pitch-to-midi there. now i just need a vst that turns loudness to midi velocity and i'm all set. pretty sure something like that was around, will probably get it working tomorrow afternoon. :)

cheers,
fabian

You could also use the same audio signal you're using as your pitch to MIDI source, and run that into Poly-AnaFX, through a ModMixer, add plenty of Lag, then use that ModMixer source to modulate the Filter Cutoffs. That will give you an envelope following effect on the filters, and the synth will be playing the note from the Pitch-to-MIDI.

I gotta try this actually... didn't realize Bidule did that. :!:

Post

yeah, that's a good idea. still i'll look around for another way to convert the audio signal to velocity so i can do this with other synths (impOSCar :) ), too.

if you need help setting this up in bidule, just ask. it's pretty easy, though. if i can do it anyone can. ;)

Send me your patches and I'll put them in the "Poly-Ana Patch Exchange". ;)

I do listen to all of these and sometimes rename and otherwise tweak them. You can do me a big favour by giving them new names, making sure the modwheel does something useful, and that the amp gains are set for a good relative volume, just below clipping.

Thanks. Enjoy.
