So...I wonder how much of a credit existing Atmosphere users will get toward Omnisphere. My guess is $150-$200 off the asking price.
I can only assume that anyone buying Atmosphere at today's lower price will not be given full credit toward the new synth. I doubt that Spectrasonics will try to separate the two price level camps.
Thoughts?

I must say,
I haven't yet caught whether it is "psychoacoustic sampling", or "PSYCHO! acoustic sampling"...
Is it the sampling of whacked acoustic effects they mean, or that they are are using a model of the human auditory senses when sampling stuff, e.g. non-linear dynamics mappings across a logarithmic frequency-resolution axis (hehe)...? Or something.
Spectrum?

Primarily it's just a term to encapsulate the approach and direction of this part of our sampling work.

Yeah, if you can get away from the "universal binary" thing (er, though the wrappers take care of that now) atmosphere is still insanely hip!
so what

Yes yes, but are you on an Intel Mac?RonDP wrote:While Omnisphere is exciting, I just bought Atmosphere.

What Intel mac owner dares to buy Atmosphere, with all the feedback that even the wrapper doesn't work?!? I mean, some say it does, some say it doesn't.
There is no clear majority. Why? Computers are not emotional, so there should be a way to find out why it works on someone's station, and not on others'...
Again, if I have been reading the wrong forae, please give me a pointer because really want to know.

They do in fact work on many systems, but the performance varies depending on the configuration.
Here's a comprehensive reply on the topic on the Atmosphere/Trilogy Intel Mac compatibility situation, that should put things in better perspective:

I need a Spectrasonics serial number to get in the first forum, Spectrum.
I haven't got that yet
I have a 2GHz/2GByte macbook running osx10.4.10 with PTLE7.4, and still have no clear indication what to expect if I decided to try out Atmosphere. Guess it's the waiting game for me, too
But thanks for the pointer to the other one. In that thread you state:
"It [Stylus RMX] was actually the first native UB available on the market, because it was completely under our own control."
Does this simply state that this was YOUR first Native UB?
It doesn't make much sense to me. What does this statement argue for or against?
Cheers and thanks,
G.

OK, I wouldn't recommend using Atmosphere with the wrapper on that particular rig. It works far better with other native hosts like Logic/Cubase/Digital Performer/Ableton Live and works especially well with faster systems like the Mac Pros.Geddulp wrote:I need a Spectrasonics serial number to get in the first forum, Spectrum.

No. It's pointing out that Stylus RMX was the first commercial native UB released by any company. We beat the whole industry. But thanks for the pointer to the other one. In that thread you state:

The point was simply that when we have full control of our own code, we are capable of extremely fast support of platform changes. Stylus RMX is a great example of what we can do with a fully transitioned instrument. It doesn't make much sense to me. What does this statement argue for or against?
Many of the "Intel Mac frustration" threads argue that Spectrasonics is being too slow to adapt to Intel Mac, etc.
Our reply is that we have proven that we are very fast in adapting to new platforms when an instrument has already made the transition to our own in-house code. Stylus RMX has already made the transition, but Atmosphere and Trilogy are in the process of completing that transition that's been in the works for quite some time.
That's why the announcement of the STEAM Engine and Omnisphere are very good news for our users. The only real bad news is that there's still a wait until all the instruments in our product line are transitioned. Once these transitions are complete, we'll be in a much better position to provide the same level of support that we've done for RMX to all our instruments.
Hope that's useful!

Sad, but clarifying.spectrum wrote: OK, I wouldn't recommend using Atmosphere with the wrapper on that particular rig. It works far better with other native hosts like Logic/Cubase/Digital Performer/Ableton Live and works especially well with faster systems like the Mac Pros.
Macbook and another host could be an option, but would probably suffer latency issues, then. Which concurs with some of the rumours around the web.
In that case, very impressive!spectrum wrote: No. It's pointing out that Stylus RMX was the first commercial native UB released by any company. We beat the whole industry.
I could not bring myself to believe that without asking explicitly
Thank you so much for hanging out here and spelling this out.

Since I love my Trilogy, Stylus RMX and NOW Atmosphere much more than all my other VSTi's running on my PC/Cubase. . . got to share.
Found this nice explaination by Eric on Northern Sounds by the man himself. Fun to know he cares to talk with us: http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/...073#post557073
I may create at hit with Atmosphere even before I upgrade to Omnisphere.
At $279.99 from Guitar City I couldn't resist.

but now that I HAVE actually seen the performance charts in the spectrasonics support forums, I have a question:
- for macbook core2 duo's, PTLE7 and Logic8 have the same performance ratings vs. buffer size. Yet you say that PTLE is inferior somehow... Would you care to elaborate? I have first hand experience that PTLE sucks any system dry for resources, but why is this not reflected in your ratings? Because from what you have said, I must assume you consider Logic8 a far better host option for the Intel wrappers vs. Atmosphere.
Hope this makes sense!
Cheers;

That's better for tech support to answer directly so we don't go too off topic here.
You can contact them through info@spectrasonics.net and they can advise you.
