This surprised me. Strange to have two products with Midi sequencers in a way. But I think it makes sense to add such functionality to Record but...outside of ID8 it looks like you really need Reason to get the most out of it.aMUSEd wrote:Oh it does have a midi sequencer too - does look good. If only it had VSTi support...missed opportunity IMO. I think the mixer looks great but I keep seeing a lot of scrolling around to use it. Not so great.
A lovely match for Reason but if you don't have Reason...IMO not much here. Street pricing will be interesting to see but so far a Reason + Record combo seems a bit pricey looking at other hosts, their features and pricing.

Just make the music that you enjoy (failing that go for a walk, watch some porn, have a fight with a random bloke until something else happens).

Not sure what you mean by "two sequencers". If you work in Reason, it's one sequencer. If you work in Record, it's still one sequencer for both programs. The sequencers never coexist...christianmusicmaker wrote:This surprised me. Strange to have two products with Midi sequencers in a way. BTW, here's the info on the dongle (aka the "Ignition Key") since a lot of people wondered what was up with that:

Seems most here are missing the point as to why this app is a big deal.
When Record "records" it performs a sophisticated FFT analysis that turns your audio into putty.
It is not simply simple recording.

I'm signed up to test thischristianmusicmaker wrote:Presonus are alread running Studio One Beta IIRC and (not sure) but the Record beta might be for existing Reason owners only . If they open it up to anyone they would generate a lot more buzz from it.headquest wrote:But in terms of availability and timing, I understood that the public beta of Record starts today...A few months to generate a huge buzz, if so.
In any case there would have to be much to buzz about initially.![]()
17 mins...
From the video on the Props site I am actually now VERY excited. This does look... well... very interesting for sure.
The marketing angle is - as always with Propellerhead - awesome. I think that pretty much ANY musician watching that video would think to themselves, "at last, music software that is designed for ME."
Seriously, I think this one is going to be a winner.

Ernst commented in the past that he loved Tracktion... but felt it lost its way. Sound familiar?aMUSEd wrote:Oh it does have a midi sequencer too - does look good. The sequencer in reason is the closest to Tracktion I have seen in a sequencer
Judging by the video - and yes, what they did with the R4 sequencer - I think that Ernst decided that the Props would take forward the vision that Tracktion started.

If the video is *for real* then this is without a doubt the very best real-time timestretch I have ever heard. That will certainly be a big plus.aMUSEd wrote:The timestretching certainly looks interestingehdyn wrote:Seems most here are missing the point as to why this app is a big deal.

As in two product offerings each with it's own Midi Sequencer and / or Editor. Reason and Record of course. I would have been surprised if both could be used at the same time but thanks for clarifying it anyway. I do wonder if there is any difference between Reasons Midi features and Records. Any info on that?blank/diod wrote:Not sure what you mean by "two sequencers". If you work in Reason, it's one sequencer. If you work in Record, it's still one sequencer for both programs. Looks like they really thought hard about how to make the use of a USB dongle as painless as possible. Personally I think this is the best Implementation of Dongle copy protection I have seen but wonder why Propellerheads did not simply use the Internet Verification and leave it at that?!?!?
The user has already verified he is the user and can then use the software (without the dongle). I guess it gives the Props more security and peace of mind but personally with apps like Podium, Sonar, Logic, Live e.t.c out there I see no need for a physical USB dongle.
Maybe Reason was getting cracked and Props were losing a lot of money. Fair enough. They have to do what is best for them if that is the case. If piracy is such a big issue for Props that they simply have to use a physical dongle then I guess they have to do it. Sad really as it would have been more desirable IMO without it.

Wow. Just watched the video. They really brought it! I wonder what the price will be for faithful Reason owners...
