Beats per minute is a misnomer. Typically a sequencer is counting off 120 crochet/quarter notes per minute when it is set to 120bpm. If you change the time signature, say to 6/8, the metronome should match the time signature. It ticks faster because it's counting off eighth notes instead. The setting is still 120bpm, but you're not counting quarter notes anymore. You're counting eighth notes; Six per measure.tony tony chopper wrote:We have a BEATS per minute setting. IF a metronome is playing on the SAME BEATS as in BPM, then at 120BPM, the metronome should play 120 times per minute, PERIOD.

Except that 7/7 and 7/9 time signatures do not exist. She Changed Her Mind wrote:If it's the only signature it is totally irrelevant if a signature is 7/7, 7/8, 7/9.. whatsoever...

Anent to this...Carl Orff, at one time, proposed the above. Replace bottom denominator with notes.

I agree with gol (or tony). It's his decision to break the mold of using classical time signatures. I wouldn't want to use FL if I had to work with time sigs, scores, staves, and other aspects of classical music notation. I want something that is fast to work with, and intuitive. Does this make translating musical scores into FL a pain, yeah, it does. I still think the depth of the sequencer itself is shallow. There should be a way for the user to define periods of rhythm change, any kind of rhythm change IMO.CC4 wrote:Beats per minute is a misnomer. Nope, that's how it should be.tony tony chopper wrote:I've been presented a video of Live accelerating, for the SAME tempo, its metronome as the time signature was changed from /4 to /8.
So would you say that Live does it wrong?

Yes well, obviously my concepts are a bit futuristic. What rests is bs. If one can't see that 7/8 to 7/7 is just a small step in that picture than it's just laziness. What made y'all so lazy in the first place? I am not a doctor though.

fast and intuitive is exactly what we are looking for. right now it's confusing and hard to work with multiple time signatures in Fl. of course this would not get in the way of normal options or make anything less intuitive. quite the opposite. right now.. working with time signatures in fl is confusing.camsr wrote:I agree with gol (or tony). Allow the OPTION for multiple time signatures. If you want to change the time signature at bar 12 then this should be easy.
Make sure the metronome clicks Correctly with the current time signature. this means the accent would be on the ONE and if you are in 7/4.. The accent would come on the 1 and then click 6 more times before the 1 again.
