I'd like to know too, actually I'd be surprised if that couldn't be done. May be my ignorance, but I can't see a technical reason why only newer patches could be edited. Maybe some early ARPs were baked-in loops, that could be a limitation but it still wouldn't prevent access to the other controls.

Yeah, same thought, a synth, almost. I was thinking about VPS Avenger again, but I missed the 50% off sale (fortunately I would say now), and the Nexus4.5 update confirms that I don't need it and hopefully my mind won't swing again in slightest favour of buying Avenger (nothing to do with the synth itself, which is great of course) and probably spend that money on Nexus4 Expansions if I really like some.

noiseboyuk wrote: Thu Sep 29, 2022 7:51 am Arguably. Can you start with an Init and build a complex patch from scratch? Still not sure, but it's clear you can do vastly more than you ever could, getting right into the basics of the sources.
If you go the the ... menu in the toolbar, load preset template, there are 9 blank layouts you can start from. From those you can build your own patches. You can build your own synth patch (virtual analog/wavetable, but not sample based).

The editing is mostly opened up, but you still can't add / delete oscs, add / delete layers, change samples. Everything else you can edit.
noiseboyuk wrote: Thu Sep 29, 2022 7:51 am That immediately leads on to another big unanswered question - could people make and sell third party libraries? There used to be a strange very small sector here which reFX clamped down upon. I suspect this will continue, which will cause gnashing of teeth. Is there even a mechanism to save banks of user patches and transfer them to other users?
Save a bunch of user patches, move them into a folder, get the user to copy that folder into their content folder. As long as you aren't distributing reFX samples, I don't see why that wouldn't be allowed.

MikeCallon wrote: Thu Sep 29, 2022 8:16 am Can someone confirm if all the new features work with older expansions (that were written for Nexus 2/3)? If you can finally 'edit' presets I'll definitely upgrade from v3.
You can edit most things from any expansion, except changing samples, add/delete oscs/layers. All effects, osc params, layer params, modulations can be changed.

Thanks for those answers FigBug - basically good news.

I just did a test on my PC using Nexus 3, and the good news is that I can make a user patch appear as an actual XP. The user folder is pretty well hidden here:

Users/Public/Public Documents/reFX/very long random letters/user presets.

I simply copied my test patch, then put it into a new XP Test folder I created alongside all the others in my content drive (the main presets folder sits in a subfolder of Nexus2). This means that third party banks really should be possible.

(I'll post all this info into the Nexus 4.5 thread too).

For those interested in hearing the new presets, there's a 60 sec audio clip with all of them at the top of the article.

Is this update officially available? I am asking because you are discussing it and I still have the possibility of updated only to the Nexus 4 version and no email with a jammis about the news.

Yes it is released. The newsletter will go out soon. If you run the Cloud app it should automatically update.

I have version 2 so I think I have to wait. I think I'm doing something wrong :)

Version 4 is a paid upgrade from 2 or 3. Only free if you already had 4.

I think, the skin is not stored globally, right?
If you plan on purchasing your first Universal Audio hardware, you can get a free additional plugin. Just send a PM.

When you change the skin and new instance should use the new skin. Any existing instance should stay on whatever skin it was set to.

@FigBug

what would be cool to have a random function which randomizes layers, fx etc. (selectable) with all presets in your library instead of loading a random preset.

Just watched the video of Refx presenting all new features in 4.5. This opens up a whole new world to explore. Almost too good to be true. Hats off to Refx on this one. Wow!
