well, there is automation, so no urge for crossfading streight away i think..

I'm really getting tired of finding out things that Bitwig doesn't do, things that should be standard for any DAW. Sure it's 1.0, but they've taken years to get it ready. Why leave out important features?

I saw the other day that it doesn't have crossfades... again WTF? A very basic editing feature. I know there's no group tracks etc, I just hope they get it sorted. If it was a cheap DAW then fair enough, but it isn't. They're pricing it as a decent piece of software, yet leaving out basic and essential features. I don't think I'll be buying it until these are added, as I use Melodyne, group tracks, crossfades and multi outs constantly.
Bitwig is clearly not for you... good you figured it out so soon and can move on...

crossfades is a pretty basic and useful audio editing feature

sure but its not deadly important, at least for me..just nice to have..better learn to cut proper :hihi:

So, with multiple audioclips pr track, you cannot play them both (or more) at the same time? I agree crossfading is very useful, but it is no showstopper (for me at least).

Clips can't overlap on a track. Maybe you're thinking of having audio and midi clips in the same track or the layered editing which lets you edit multiple tracks in the same editor?

Tbh, yes, I thought audioclips could overlap on a track. Is there a reason this is not possible?

Post

Well it's just not made that way. It would complicate some other stuff I guess. First you'd have to add a way to show both of the overlapping items in a track. Also editing midi in track mode would be complicated because if you were working on an overlap you've have the extra issue of which item your edits would apply to. I'm sure there's a bunch of other stuff like that to deal with that I can't think of right now. You can do it in Reaper.

I asked this very question to their support (Dominik) in the context of effect tails of HW synths for repeating sequences. Both the audio tracks and the clip launcher should at some point have support for not cutting off the previous clip when a new clip is triggered (somewhat equivalent to options for 'new note action' handling in Renoise). Dominik's reply was:

"in version 1.0, an audio track can only play one audio event at a time, so crossfades are not possible yet. But thanks for you suggestions, they are on the wish list now!"

Not sure what the technical reason is. Wouldn't be surprised if they simply haven't figured out how to elegantly display these overlaps yet, since everything in the GUI seems really slick and well-thought-out.

Fingers crossed and hope the features will make it to an early version :)

Clips with tails that don't get cut off would really cool. Then I could use my analog delay pedal without any trouble.

Would be cool if they could display the mixed down version of the audio clips as the waveform for the track and highlight (color) the currently selected one.

A bit like the master spectrum in Renoise:

They are already dynamically adjusting the displayed waveform for volume. Adding a dynamically adjusted mixed down version of it would fit well.

On Mac at least, Bitwig + Melodyne Bridge plugin + Melodyne Editor seem to be working OK together. The editor crashed the first time the bridge was added to a project, but after that it settled down.

Audio transferred OK from Bitwig to Melodyne. Pitch correction and playback OK. It does seem to work quite as well as in (e.g.) Logic, but it's working OK AFAICT.
Why all this? What is the bridge plug-in and why is it necessary? In Ableton I just load the Melodyne VST. Why would you not be able to do that in bitwig?

Post

Because I have a license for Meldoyne Studio, which does not include the plugin version (only the bridge).

Are there any track version or lane features in Bitwig similar to Cubase?

For example, you can record 20 takes while looping a section or you can have a second version of the track with different midi notes or audio that you can switch between.

Oh ok, I see. Thanks.
