This is definately an upgrade, not an update.
And as such, we will be paying for it. I suspect it will be closer to the original price of AmpliTube 2 than to the current price.

Upgrade will be ... nah... I definitely can't say THAT. :)

It just seems a little too good to be true is all...

I'm going with the positive thinking. Peter seems to want to tell us something he can't, which seems as though it's positive. Again, once the demo comes out, I'll unclick all the oversampling and such and if it's not excessive cpu munching, I'm certain I will be in.

IK looks like they've outdone themselves, I think it will be worth whatever the upgrade price is. If it's 150 or less, I see it as reasonable, maybe not so much with others......day after tomorrow we find out more details :hyper:

If your amptone isn't worth the CPU, then what is?

I get fabulous tone without all the extra stuff. Actually, I think guitarrig sounds better with the "hifi" off  Anyways if it's a little higher.....again...I'll most certainly be in. But if it's higher I may have to wait till I get a better computer and who knows when that will be!

Absolutely. But I'm looking forward to the expanded flexibility. Not to mention the old models getting the AT Fender treatment.

Oh no, you misunderstood (or I just said it wrong) I'm talking about turning off the oversampling and hi-res. I'm dying to get the grubby hands on those new features!

I guess I didn't say it right, only if the cpu jumps from (what is about 8-10% now/fender) to like 20% will I think twice. If it's like 12%-ish I'm gonna be stoked!

Post

Yeah. Because for me, it would have to use up more than a CPU core or two to give me pause.

Post

It's all in context here. If I use guitar, it usually means at least 3 tracks. This adds up pretty fast CPU wise. The drum stuff is more about ram than cpu, so it's not bad. But then there is bass. If I use something like "jay bass" then there is a hint of cpu, but now ram is starting to be an issue under the wrong circumstances. Even if I "roll my own" bass wise......

Then there are add ons.......VBA or fender for bass (or that TE/acoustic bass from AT3), eq's, maybe compression (some t rack singles) and now I'm pushing the system fairly hard.

So CPU and ram usage matters. If it's anything too insane, I'll live with what I got because what I got IS WHAT I GOT! I'm trying to push a new computer back to at least summer........

Good idea, since the 6 core i9s should be available by then.

Good lord! i5's make my little 6750 look old....

But, at 2.7x max ram, it's still going to be a burden. x64??? Not likely anytime soon here! At least win7 is a decent OS at the moment.........

I can't give any exact metrics at the moment, but there have been optimizations as well, according to the folks here. Of course, I'd have to weigh the newer/better aspect and optimizations and such, and that's just not possible to do with 100% accuracy right now for obvious reasons. I don't have such a scientific setup being that I'm on a netbook on the NAMM floor at the moment. And dang excited about it!

Why don't you simply throw in a Q9550 or even Q9400 and buy yourself a year or two ?
With my Q9450 @ 3.2 I regularly run Jamstix, Superior 2, Kontakt 4, B4 II, one or two extra synths, a few Bootsie plugs and 3 to 4 ampsims @ full quality (AT, SVX, GR4, TH-1 or LePou, depending on song), not counting the DSP plugs.
No prob @ 512 up anyway, in very busy projects I might have to freeze a few tracks temporarily to go lower. Not really needed though as I monitor my guitar in hardware while tracking, so I can stay @ 1024.
