Perhaps try unloading 1 - 2 heavy VSTis (especially sample based ones) and try insert the plugin again?

How many instances of Compassion do you have running in the project? I'll try to repro here too.

Cheers :)
I think that's unlikely. I had a similar issue with Stillwell plugins (Bombardier, MajorTOM, EventHorizon+, CMX demo). It happened just at the beginning of a project - I think I had something like 20 plug-ins loaded in the whole project... having C6 on Win7 x64 with 12GB the issue must reside somewhere else, as I had no resources-hungry VSTi.

Weird fact is, after re-installing the plugs a couple times, I reported to Scott... and the issue simply disappeared after a couple days, I'm no longer able to reproduce it
Yeah I've got 8 gig of RAM, and it's only using 4 gig system total. The funny thing is, I tried it all earlier, and I loaded up COMPassion fine, but haven't been able to do it since.

I found the crash log, thanks for that, only 3 entries ;) Not bad for Cubase :)

Thanks for the info folks, can you please tell me how many instances of Compassion you have running before you can no longer insert more? Will happily try to repro here :)

Are there any news about the mod exchange area on the dmgaudio website? While the whole mod system is extremely cool as a whole it's a rather complex thing to learn. Some more examples to study (and use!) would be cool.

I can try and take a look after lunch (GMT+1). But I guess A WHOLE LOT :D I've used over 110 mixed plugins instances, including heavy-load reverbs and delays plus 10 convolution engines with cab IRs and 10 amp sims before running out of CPU power... and surely I'd run out of CPU before having the slightest RAM problem on my system. Will report later.

Didn't check the site for mods news, but I'm pretty interested as well.

I have 13 instances of Compassion running in the project right now, I cannot open the GUI of any of the running ones either without the same problem.

Thanks, will try to repro tonight :)

Alrgihty, to start with, I've tried a blank project:

Cubase 6.02 x32 with Compassion 1.04 (96 instances) and can't seem to repro the situation yet. I am going to guess it has to do with another plugin and some sort of conflict so I'll keep trying combinations and ideas.

Apologies for all the questions but I help test these products with Dave and would really like to try and help if I can.

Here are some specific questions:

1) What version of Cubase are you running specifically (e.g. Cubase 6.03 x64)?
2) What OS are you on? (e.g. Windows 7x64 SP1)
3) Which version of Compassion are you running (e.g. Compassion VST2 1.04)?
4) Have you tried closing all other plugin interfaces before trying to open Compassion's interface?
5) Would you be willing to provide the Cubase project without audio & MIDI data, just the effect & instrument tracks all loaded with VSTis & VSTs. I will not likely have all VSTs you have but I can at least attempt to repro the issue based on what I can load.

All the best :)

Oh wait, I think I've replicated part of the problem, is this what you see?

It didn't make Cubase crash in my case though, still working on that :D

I made the test - loaded 120 COMPassion instances. As I had the "white GUI problem" with Stillwell plugs, I tried to insert some of them in the subsequent channels. Opened EH+, Bombardier, 1973: nada... tried to open MajorTOM and the problem reappeared (after some weeks with no issues). It didn't crash on me because the project wasn't in playback mode, tried with the project running and it froze. A force-quit wasn't necessary to close Cubase, but it needed a couple minutes to complete the shutdown procedure.

Cubase 6.0.2 x64
Win7 x64
COMPassion and Stillwell plugins are the latest versions (EDIT: all x64 versions, COMPassion is the VST2)

Please, let me know if this helps or if I can do some further and more focused test.

Thanks a lot, I'll give it a shot and let you know how I go. The info is very useful :)

Great idea to send any Cubase crashlogs you have to Dave to so he can work his magic on them.

I've managed to reproduce the crash here with the Stillwell plugin (MajorTOM). I'll do some further testing to try and isolate whether it's a Stillwell or DMG Audio bug :)

I sent the crashlog to Dave - glad it was helpful.

I actually only had the issue with the Stillwell plugs (also Bombardier, CMX, Bitter and EvenHorizon+... possibly a couple more). But it could be a combination of both.

If it can be of any help to those who dig deeper, this is the crashlog:

Great stuff, I reproduced this exact crash too and have a step by step repro for Dave to help track down the cause, this could also be a Stillwell bug too.

Dave, the file "Compassion vs MajorTOM (crash project).cpr" is also in your usual spot under "DMG Audio Compassion" directory.

Prerequisites:

- Cubase 6.03 x64
- Windows 7 x64

Repro:

1) Ensure you have both Compassion 1.04 VST2 x64 & the latest demo version of MajorTOM (by Stillwell) x64 installed before starting
2) Dowlnoad and open "Compassion vs MajorTOM (crash project).cpr"

http://www.sendspace.com/file/8f44dt

3) Select the track "MajorTOM 2" and attempt to edit insert 1 "majortom"
4) Cubase crashes with the following crashlog

Code: Select all

===================================================================

Notes:

- This problem can not be reproduced when using either of the 2 plugins only
- This was tested with 120 Compassions in a project and no issue found
- This was also tested with over 300 MajorTOMs in a project and no issue found

Are other folks who are having issues also using Stillwell plugins? If you would kindly provide me further information, I will do my best to repro :)

Cheers

ok I am going to try and work backwards and see if I can isolate the problem.

The info is

Cubase 6.0.3 64bit

Windows 7 64bit Ultimate latest updates.

AMD 3.2Ghz 1090T (Hex core)

8Gig RAM

COMPassion 1.04 it happens with the VST3 and VST2 versions.

OK I have a suspect. I worked backwards through the other plug-ins I have loaded, and tried removing each one, one by one until COMPassion loaded again, well it did start working fine after I took off cloner (VST3 Cubase Native Plugin)

So could you possibly test Compassion and Cloner's compatibility, see if that causes it :) I can't reproduce the error with just a few instances of both in a new project, but taking cloner out has released COMPassion. Only thing in common is that I am using them as VST3's.
