Hi Luigo,
please check if there is an alert window hidden behind the RapidComposer application window, because RC never beeps when starts. Maybe there was an error during setting the MIDI or Audio interface.
Also please click on the Settings tab, then the Audio tab, and select an ASIO driver to use. Using any Windows audio (MME, DirectSound) especially with <50 msec buffer size will produce glitchy audio even on fast machines.
Thanks,
Attila

This sounds like a buffer problem and is related to CPU usage.

Hi guys,
I've looked into your suggestions, and these are my findings:
- The soundcard drivers were up to date, according to Windows update checker.
My soundcard is a Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6.
- I do have Wi-fi on the computer, but disabling it caused no change (did you mean just to disable it in Windows, or unplug the cable? In any event, I tried both, but no changes)
- I disabled Windows system sounds, but the loud beep was still there upon launching RapidComposer.
- I did change some settings according to the tips from Sweetwater (no sleep for either the usb hubs nor the hard drive).
Nothing was gained from these changes.
HOWEVER: I did manage to run RapidComposer without audio breakup after switching to the MME driver instead of the ASIO. I got the latency down to 18ms, below that the sound broke up. Interestingly, the annoying beep also disappeared after switching the driver to MME.
I should mention I also have problems with Sundog Studio: here I experience a latency of about 3-4 seconds (!).

Greetings Luigo,
So it sounds like you are good to go then? That's a fairly decent latency of 18ms. Could be a bit better I suppose but still not too bad.
The reason why I had suggested disabling the WiFi is due to latency. For many the WiFi enabled created such latency problems and spikes they just couldn't use audio software. If in your case it is not creating issues then leave it on in case you need WiFi while using audio software.
This beep you experience has me puzzled. Attila had followed up with the suggestion to see if an error message was hiding behind a window. That could have been a likely culprit. I have not experienced any sound opening RC and am at a loss for explanation. Perhaps another member will chime in here.
As for MME vs. ASIO: I use ASIO for RC and have no problems. In BIAB I use MME cause ASIO won't work. In Bitwig Studio I use WASAPI because ASIO won't work. In Sonar X2 I use MME because ASIO won't work. In Studio One I use ASIO. In Live I use....well, I'll have to look at that not sure now.
Bottom line, if it is working for you then that's the one to go with
Same with all other settings. Keep tweaking until you find that sweet spot.
In closing, with a 3-4 second delay how do you even use Sundog Studio? Wow, that is really unacceptable. I thought at first I misread your post.
Let us know if you need more help.
Happy Musiking!

Luigo,
Regarding the high latency, check out Latencymon here:
http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon
or DPC Latency Checker here:
http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
These will tell you if you have problems but they don't tell you specifically what is causing the problem.
That becomes trial and error. You run the program and disable/enable devices until you determine what causes the issue.
Often times it is a hub or some other usb device that is the problem. Sometimes moving them to another port will solve the problem; sometimes not.
Anyway, I hope they are of use to you.
Happy Musiking!

You could perhaps also try to install ASIO4ALL and make some tests with it (just for one hour, the time needed to install it, tweak it and test it a little).
Do it. Just to make some experiences and learn some lessons at the end by a reflection conduct based on logic.
You have this weird sound with you Native (and native) Asio driver.
You have not this sound with MME.
So we can begin by an obvious reflection that the problem is in the progression of the path between the source and the output towards the soundcard.
So let's try to experiment with another path, in other words... another driver.
Install ASIO4ALL v2 (it MUST be this version 2.11 beta2). Then tweak it with first a very long latency (go straight to 1024 samples without any hesitation!) to avoid an additional problem. Don't worry, it is just an experimentation.
If ASIO4ALL works without this weird sound (with this huge latency, it is important for the moment) at the launch of RC, it means that the problem have been removed.... by removing your native driver. Therefore you can keep the ASIO4ALL driver and adjust the latency at the optimal level.
And at the opposite, if the sound is still heard with that huge latency across ASIO4ALL, it means that your native driver was NOT the origin of the problem. Therefore that experience will have permitted to definitively remove that possible cause. So you uninstall ASIO4ALL to keep on using your native driver, and that way we can continue to investigate further knowing that your driver is definitively not the cause.
Hop !

Hey guys,
Thanks a lot for your suggestions, really appreciated.
I'll be quite busy the next few days, but hopefully I'll get to try out these things sometime this weekend.
Thanks again, great forum!

And don't forget to give news so that we may continue to find the cause and (hopefully) resolve it definitively!Luigo wrote:Hey guys,

The newspaper doesn't say yet if he has as much humour as us... I hope...
Because we see so many bad words these last days in some other forums...

Humm... For our new friend and to immediately avoid him to mislead himself at first sight, it would be good to tell him by now that I'm 55 but I have NEVER took the life at serious (except at the minute I was born... but that did not last long!) even in the most serious moment of my job when I worked.

Hi, Attila, long time no see
)
nice to notice that you are still working very hard to improve your excellent program
I was very glad to find your latest new features in beta5 (especially long awaited additions to chord generator possibilities and "chords widening" variation).
But today I suddenly found that "something wrong happened" with your new phrases saving algorythm
Every time I try to add new phrase to the library, the name that I type in "name field" and "group field" disappears right after I move to another field or press on "Save as" button. The same problem remains both in Editing mode as in manual Saving mode (by right-clicking on chosen new phrase).
Please, check this annoying bug and try to repare it
My best wishes,
T.
P.S. Bang, I also just brought to my mind another old annoying thing, which I forgot to mention much earlier:
when I use some "tricky" chords in Fingerpicking Generator (not simple ones but something like m7b9 and so on), very often it produces weirdest looking lines in highest octaves (e.g. C7 and higher) and refuses to pull it down in editor (something just blocks it).
Could you check also this strange behaviour and look for possible solution?

Edit: RC creates a file named .rcPHRS (it could also have been named New Phrase.rcPHRS, if you did not try to change the default name). The contents of my .rcPHRS file are as follows:
