I believe they said they would provide DVDs for a nominal fee, but primary medium would be download.
That's good to know. The last two versions did not work properly when I downloaded them. Only the disks did what they were suppose to.
Retailers are taking pre-sale orders for boxed upgrades now. The boxed upgrades are the same price as the download. The Cakewalk store does not sell boxed upgrades but will sell the media separately. Similar to the last few upgrades.

I already pre-ordered Platinum for $125.16 (JRR Shop) mainly be cause the AD2 Producer Bundle more than pays for it.
Not finding that price at JRR Shop. Is it still active and/or is there a link?

You won't see the "discount" until you check out, and if you type in "GROUP" in the coupon field, it knocks it down a tad further (maybe not true as of now), but I and many others have paid $125.16 for it, and the link still works. (Edit: I wouldn't wait past tomorrow, supposedly the release date is the 21st so with presales...)

Thanks, it still works as of now.
I left it in my cart for the moment because it is a download only.
I may end up using a dealer that has the boxed set instead.

I just found out the boxed version may not contain media and DVDs may only be on sale at the Cakewalk store. Not sure what the point of a boxed version would be. see http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3152400

Thanks, I now have more questions for them before jumping on this.
Mainly about the installer...
I see it has a 20 GB for full installation on the site so I wonder how much it actually translate to if writing as new features to the already installed X3e. I have read somewhere that it would be only those new features though. Just don't know if that info is reliable.
But mostly I need to know more about the installer and if it works like XLN now does and has to be on the machine you run it on OR if I can download the files on a USB drive and install it to that computer from the drive. (Like I do now with Native Instruments and used to do with XLN before they made changes).

If it works like XLN does now and it requires anything more than a 5 GB download/install all at once, I can no longer use Sonar. It gets that simple. Somethings are getting harder to use just because we live in such a rural mountain community with one cell tower and one carrier.

I've stopped using XLN as much as possible because buying anything new from them requires budgeting their downloads due to those carrier restrictions. Even with this upgrade, It will take me three months to be able to download and install those adpaks without cutting off other needed company downloads and costing me even more for going over those limits.

As good as this new model is for many, it can easily be the death of it for some of us.

I believe they said normal installers will also be available on the website version of your account. You don't have to use the Command Center. It will be more painful but your DAW can even be fully offline. You just download the installers and move them using USB drive/DVD-R/whatever.

The new installers are broken into much smaller pieces that before and there is no need to download everything. Updating an existing X3 Producer installation (not including the XLN piece) uses less much less than 20GB. More like 1GB if only the SONAR package, Anderton Collection, help and tutorial are installed.

You can use the new Command Center front end which uses the internet to download/install and authorize SONAR or download the installers from your store account using a browser. The Command Center caches the installers. Either way the installers can be copied to another machine and installed. Then use remote authentication to get the disconnected machine up. Here is a video describing the process using the Command Center

That helps. Thanks.

I have not read the thread so I hope this was not asked before.

Will anyone be offering the Sonar 2015 at a discount especially the Platinum with the into price at $149.

There is some. Just look at a few posts above yours. :D
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

I had for sure checked out JRR but now know the discount is given at checkout.
Thanks for your quick reply.

I am a long-time user and fan. I love the Skylight interface and love the way the basic version of SONAR has all the engine features baked in and I can bring my own plugs to that and be happy. I haven't been using SONAR now for well over a year but in the past support was responsive. The trouble is, they never fixed the few bugs that totally wrecked my workflow, particularly the U-He text problem, as I create new patches as much as I create new tunes, usually at the same time, except that with SONAR, that creative process stopped altogether. Ultimately, I got frustrated by the lack of responsiveness to my problem.

What turns me off currently are two things: 1) if you do not re-subscribe, you lose patch updates after one year...meaning unless you ay through the nose they will be fixing problems even less than they do now, which is already not good enough. Admittedly, the same problem is rife throughout the software industry. Everybody is coming out with new versions as soon as possible and abandoning the last release in a sorry state of bugs. 2) The overall cost of subscription models is always higher. Admittedly, subscription models are the future...

I have yet to see contrary evidence to the above.

I still upgrade regularly and am waiting for them to fix the bugs...been waiting for years now. Meanwhile, I'm finding Cubase much more powerful and rewarding, yet a steeper learning curve. At least I am once again creating a saving all my new sounds as I work in my DAW :)
