Yes, Yes and No.

You've missed a lot. All the legacy plugins have completely new, scalable UIs. For real.

The party is finished. We are now in the after party problems (and yes Cubase has its share :hihi: ). See the last 5 pages or so to answer your questions ;)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

The size of the ZIP file (4507 KB) is too large to include in this thread as an attachment. Would anyone here be willing to provide an alternate online hosting facility?

Now that we have the new larger/scaleable GUI's , which one, or maybe two, of these Korg Synths do you like the most in terms of sonic quality, character, diversity of sounds ?

Post

Wavestation and ARP for me ...

The GUI update did not change anything behind the scenes I believe. WS RAM/ROM is a bit complex you should research a bit on the structure and hierarchy (pcm waves/wavesequences, patch and performance).

BUT with the old legacy you could just open
WS from default and just save the entire thing as a bank (.FXB) in your DAW and it will work.

Thank you so much. I can't believe they actually did this. Does anybody know when the release date was? I can't find anything at their site that says when the GUIs were changed.

Post

It was like two days ago or so. The version changelog in the installer mentions the date.

Wow! I really never thought this day was coming. I can't wait to actually start using these again, especially the Wavestation.

I don't mean to be picky, but bigger screens doesn't make them sound any different. Don't get me wrong, the bigger GUI's are fantastic (once the bugs are sorted out) but I don't get your question. I was happily using these since the Legacy Collection days. YMMV
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

+1
Nothing has changed in sound ;) Anyway, for me I love all of them to be honest, but they are very different. MS-20 and ARP Odyssey are more analogue than the others, while Mono/Poly and Polysix are like sweet VA (I love them!). M1 for me is a rompler mostly with synth functions but Wavestation is sample-arranger based synth, but not like DX7 or Serum or other "pure" synths. Still an excellent sound source with sweet digital sound :) This bigger GUI is definitely a great help to re-explore those timeless synths :)

Well, I never bothered to use the older versions with their tiny GUI's , they were just picking up static on my drive. Now that they are nice and large, I plan to give them more attention, and use them if they deliver the sounds I fancy, so maybe I should have been clearer in my post.

LoveEnigma18 wrote: Mon Apr 20, 2020 4:53 pmI need to import or load them in any of the RAM slots and then click "Write" and "OK". At a time, we can load 3 different banks in 3 available RAM slots. RAM slots are just like actual RAM, volatile data, which gets lost when we delete an instance / open a new one. Am I correct?
Hermetech Mastering wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 5:38 pmDo note if you load a whole RAM bank in (ALL data), you usually need to load it into RAM1 for it to work properly. If you load it into to RAM2 the Patches will be pointing towards RAM1 WaveSequences and Patches and it will sound totally wrong. It's one of the nightmares about having such an overly hierarchical synth architecture, and why if you want to mix and match WaveSequences or Patches from different RAM banks, a great Librarian software will be essential. This is why I recommended you keep you own Init Bank as RAM2 or RAM3, then you can use RAM1 for always loading other people's banks/presets into, and they should just work.
Thank you for your help. I am yet to comprehend your excellent post earlier about getting started, as I am a noob when it comes to hardware synths. Never owned any. I still did not fully understand the steps above (need to understand the hierarchical synth architecture), but I will try to follow your suggestions and get back if I have further questions. :)

Thank you for the suggestion. Actually, I never really used legacy version too (did pirate Wavestation a few years ago when I got started, but never tried to understand it).

I will need to understand the WS structure as you have mentioned. Normally, we can figure out by messing with synths, but this seems to be a different beast all together.

But I guess what I am asking does not look possible. You simply cannot save and load a "single" preset/patch like you do in almost every other (newer/VST) synths.
