I guess it depends on what holidays you're talking about, but it's out, my friend.MillerSam wrote: Wed Dec 18, 2024 10:20 pm In case you miss the sample import function. This is coming in a very soon update after the holidays![]()

Can't upload your own samples quite yet though: "Yes, it’s a shame you can’t load your own samples. However, Arturia confirmed today that this will be added in the coming weeks,"zerocrossing wrote: Wed Dec 18, 2024 10:46 pm I guess it depends on what holidays you're talking about, but it's out, my friend.![]()

Damn, these granular machines look nice. Maybe not as flexible as Pigments‘, but they seem smartly designed and streamlined.
I didn’t get Minifreak when it came out, but I’m tempted now. Great timing by Arturia to wait until black friday is over

The granular modes are pretty cool and fun to use. Indeed not as flexible as Pigments, but sometimes that what you want. Quick, fun and straight to the point. No need to deep dive into elaborate granular shenanigans. They did a great job with those 7 modes, they're well thought. Combined with the original synthesis power of the Minifreak, that makes it a really great synth. Super happy with the update.nanostream wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 3:07 am Damn, these granular machines look nice. Maybe not as flexible as Pigments‘, but they seem smartly designed and streamlined.

Yeah, I’ll probably grab it when the next sale happens. It’s quite an unique package they got there.Neon Breath wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 5:58 pm They did a great job with those 7 modes, they're well thought. I was a bit let down by the mini freak plugin when I updated my V Collection. It seems like it's just a pretty simple synth based off the mutable instruments oscillator.

I actually didn't like it at first. It's not like a Juno that never sounds bad. The filter is completely unremarkable, and it's not hard to make the synth sound thin and unpleasantly digital. But after spending time with it I realised how versatile it is. It's capable of making some really cool sounds, and the effects are very good. The interface is well designed, easy on the eyes and easy to work with. I just really enjoying using it.

It's more than that, it deserves another look. It can easily do stuff Plaits won't.Ah_Dziz wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 6:20 pm I was a bit let down by the mini freak plugin when I updated my V Collection. It seems like it's just a pretty simple synth based off the mutable instruments oscillator.
Some of the oscillator models are based on MI Plaits models, yes -- but in the context of a polysynth I think they come off quite differently. My main criticism of their use of MI stuff is they should have dropped the gimmicky speech synthesis and included the particle noise mode.
There are also 3 models from Noise Engineering (actual collabs, not just grabbing open-source code and claiming it was a collab) and some original ones.
AND, you can use the second "oscillator" to process the first, with some filter types (comb is great) and distortion as well as FM and RM.
The main filter in Minifreak to be more tame than on the Microfreak unfortunately -- the Micro was super good for sweeping a bandpass across a complex sound to pick out individual harmonics. But I still have no trouble making it kick ass. A lot of times it doesn't even need the main filter.
And it'll do unison, with freely tunable detune values up to an octave, which is great for dramatic clusters/chords etc. and can get especially wild when going into distortion.

That's exactly what it is. The hardware takes the Open Source Mutable Instruments Plaits oscillators from Eurorack land and put it into a budget hardware synth with analog filters and two LFOsAh_Dziz wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 6:20 pm I was a bit let down by the mini freak plugin when I updated my V Collection. The synth engine itself isn't all the special, but the oscillators are
It sounds amazing in Eurorack and in VCV rack. Arturia just made it available with some polyphony for those who didn't want it need a full blown Eurorack system
You can coax some pretty cool sounds out of it using the oscillators
I like using the plugin inside of Voltage Modular which is another Virtual Eurorack system and treating it more along the lines as a polyphonic oscillator. That way I get unlimited LFOs, different filters, more envelopes etc

I love Plaits! I already have it in VCV and other places. I'm sure I'll use it here and there for some simple KS strings and such. I was just hoping for more than Plaits with a filter. Still something that I wasn't really taking into account when I updated the V collection so it's all gravy.
