I mean, I'm a Mac and Logic user, but the thought of them buying out yet some more companies in the creative sector is simply making me cringe. Not only because of the poor Windows fellows but also because these programs just don't profit from being in Apple's hands. Just look at the lastest Logic update, it's pretty much a joke. I'd rather have an x-platform DAW and pay for it in case it's properly supported (but no, I likely won't switch - for reasons, even if I would possibly like to).
Honestly I wish DAWs wouldn't waste time on cross platform development and instead had a solid cross platform system like DAWProject implemented universally. MOTU Digital Performer for instance is IMO slowed down a lot by the porting to Windows. I think Logics issue isn't the single platform part, it's the Apple part, i.e. less of a personal vision and more of a hands in the honeypot issue of Tim Apple thinking AI will help out. Plus dragging the Logic team into other projects at Apple etc.

Being able to use Figma to create the UI to your instrument without scripting knowledge is a game changer. It also has C Major which is a DSP specific language and its a really compelling alternative for Kontakt for everybody, not just people who know how to script.
Thanks for the suggestion.

That looks rather promising! The GUI is lightyears ahead of Kontakt and I like the easy method of layering per key shown.

I will at least follow at that one. Supposedly a beta release in about 3 months he claims. If it takes off it will be one less reason to fund Native Instruments.

But it is going to need heavyweight support and a lot of time to eat away at Kontakt marketshare.

I still think reports of NI's death are greatly exaggerated. Plenty of companies go through this, and survive, Roli recently for instance, and IMO NI have more going for them than Roli.

I see no evidence that is the controlling variable...Gorilla is supported by hans zimmer...doesn't get much more heavyweight than that...and the ex spitfire dude christian henson...ujam, crow hill, and virharmonic libraries are built on it now and straight ahead samples is trialing it...been a few years already and it hasn't caught on like wildfire...neither has Hise, bestservice, or Falcon...none of the alternatives have...Koda has soniccouture, soundiron, realitone, and Joshua Bell dipping their toe in the water...i dont think there will be any major tidal forces...I hope they all survive...i hope soundpaint and mndala open up as well

I can see this maybe opening up the market to smaller sample lib devs who may not have the skills or resources to script a custom UI or something like that and don't need or want full access to an SDK. Koda seems to be focusing on ease of use and doing basic things without scripting, while leaving the option to script for those who do that open. Being able to script your own DSP seems pretty powerful to me.

This seems pretty straightforward to me and I would definitely make my own libs, even if its just for personal use. If they add an autosampler feature even better, but I have Logic/Mainstage or my MPC for that.

The only thing missing for Koda is loading Kontakt libraries even if they don't load perfectly that's a good starting point for some devs. I'm sure they will add a convertor or something at some point.

yeah...that's why I don't get all the panic...the biggest developers mostly all have their own samplers now...the mid tier most likely have enough invested where they would continue and just port to alternatives...the only group that might disappear in the unlikely event kontakt did are the smallest developers with small catalogs that were more side hustles than businesses...koda has already stated they are investigating/debating providing a ksp to Cminor translator to aid/expedite kontakt developers porting libraries...i'd assume every sampler that has a scripting api (hise, gorilla, falcon, koda) is an alternative...its never going to be instant, but its not starting from scratch either

I never got the crying about kontakt anway...the old UI is fairly well executed and functional to me...but i don't need my tools to entertain me as video games or rely on them to be my muse...I still love independence and love melda...people on kvr made it out like kontakt was unusable lol

Even if kontakt comes out of this OK, which I am certain it will, this period of uncertainty creates an opportunity.

I wonder if the likes of UVI and Steinberg might be having meetings to see if this as a chance to muscle in. If they were to start developing tools to make transferring easier and offer discounts they could gain some user base, and I suspect people would not move back.
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Highly inaccurate.. Logic Pro X was out for a couple of years by then already and Apple owned and worked on Logic (al versions prior to X) since 2002.

That's similar to HISE.
Probably another lost opportunity.

And the fact that each time you upgrade Kontakt or Reaktor you lose some kind of compatibility with old major versions says something about Native Instruments that disturbs users wishing for updates.
