michat: yes, from the GUI (which is not complete yet)
this configuration is per instance

the button mapping can be set from the config file (which is global for all instances)
It doesn't matter how it sounds..
..as long as it has BASS and it's LOUD!

Hey antto! I'll have to backtrack and read what I've missed.

Would it be possible to get someone to sum up though?

Links to latest release? Website? Anything?
noise and beats: Negutyv Xeiro do people actually click these?
gearlust: Roland JP-8000, too much/not enough eurorack

we're on beta2. it is rockin'.
(seems a bit better than the original beta1)
antto is still working on an extensive rewrite that has
an even better sound, new features etc etc.
much anticipation on this, but you will still find a lot
of depth and functionality with the beta2 in the meantime,
it is superb. the link is on the first page of the thread,
i think.

I wrote the manual for beta1 (literally) :hihi:

Beta2 was supposed to be a temporary thing so I never updated the manual, I guess we all got distracted by other things for a while (2 years?!)

Reading through the manual it could clearly use some cleanup. No one noticed all the typos?!

Look at this: "tunining, oscilator 2 mising and detuning"

I mean WOW. Only two of those words are spelled right. I'll update this tomorrow after the festivities are over if I get a chance.

xybre: thank you ;]
but don't bother with the beta1 manual
since then, i rewrote the sequencer like 4398 times or something
to sum up, i bought a x0xb0x, started developing a firmware for it, and rewrote Venom's sequencer, then i suspended developement of that firmware, and rewrote the fundamental parts of Venom's sequencer once again
this time it's good
i decided to make it work like the 303's sequencer (with the great help of rv0)

i'll make another video soon, showing the features of the sequencer so far

Well Beta1 is completely servicable, so until I see the final version you're working on, I'll maintain stuff for the old version. To be fair, it's been 2 years. :)

I get the feeling the released version will be so different that they will be like different plugins anyway!

progress report:
Pattern Edit Mode - almost complete (just some details left)
TAP-Write-Time mode is up and running
Pattern Manipulators are done (with some hints shown on the LCD)
mouse response on knobs and switches (both linear and rotary) is better now, with a dedicated module

the SE project was quite a mess since it had lots of remainings left all the way since beta1, as well as stupid things i tryied but forgot to remove (like unconnected filters and midi2cv modules) lots of unlabeled cables which lead to nowhere
i cleaned this up, removed the remainings of the old skin too
and i refreshed the new skin (now, some more shiny buttons)
finally rendered a full set of knobs and i put together the whole panel skin

it looks f*ggin good now ;]

i'm having dilemas about where to place the additional stuff on the screen
so the synth is basically there, on top there's a small "toolbar" with settings like tempo, auto-sync, pattern load/save and the-like
there are a few things missing - the distortion controls
i'm wondering whether to put the distortion right next to the panel, to the right side (which would make the synth screen size wider) or to put it on a sepparate "page" (so that then, the synth is hidden and the whole screen is free for the distortion but that might be too empty then)
another dilema is about the LCD screen
when i put it where i intended (on the synth, between the MODE and VOLUME knobs) - then there isn't enough space for the labels on the MODE knob, tho it looks good there
i'm wondering whether to keep it like that, or move it outside the synth panel, for example, i could integrate it with the "toolbar" i mentioned, or if i put the distortion to the right side - i can put the LCD above it

right now, the toolbar + the synth panel solely is about 590x330
suggestions are welcome on these questions

my toughts are that the Distortion is gonna be a common function, so it's not bad for it to be on the front panel page, together with the synth's performance knobs
on the other hand, i don't wanna make the size of the screen any bigger, since i like it tight and compact
as for the LCD - the labels on the MODE knob are not deadly important, since the currently selected mode is shown on the LCD screen

maybe i should upload a screenshot, early enough to get it "climatized" in case any uhm "persons" might not like the similarity to the original synth ;P~

yeh, a GUI preview sounds a good idea.

flip panels are your friend here, espesh' for distortion?
how often will you change distortion settings during a track?
maybe wrong, dunno..haha just realised that contradicts what
you just said...
as someone here once said: 'the answers will come, they always do'

great! is comn' along! a screenshot would surely help us give opinions on your dilemmas antto!
thanks for your great work

Hello!

I've been watching the progress on Venom, but haven't made any comments until now.

I'm really looking forward to the official release of this VST. So far, I like what I see.

Regarding the placement of the distortion controls, I too would love to see a screenshot.

I would have no problem with the distortion controls being placed on the second page of one of the groups.

eg: rather than having page 2 of the whole synth appear mostly empty except for the distortion controls, give a smaller section the ability to have a second page.

I like how TranceDrive VST is laid out - collapsible, scrollable groups along the bottom. Lets me access the controls most important to me very quickly.

Keep up the great work.

so this is roughly the layout..
i think i'll keep the LCD there, maybe i'll adjust it slightly lower so there's enough room to put the "VB-303" logos and stuff above it

usually when you adjust the distortion, you'd also want to touch the synth Volume knob, so i think the distortion should be on the same page as the synth front panel..
i could put it horizontally right between the black/orange toolbar-thing, and the synth.. it won't take much space, the height of the whole thing would be not more than 400 to 420 pixels..

Cool, looks good so far.

How many knobs/buttons do you have for the distortion controls?

Here's an idea:

For this purpose, I label the horizontal panels sequentially from top to bottom.

Horizontal Panel #1:
- rear port labels: mix in, waveform, sync in, etc, leave them split into two groups, one group on the left, one on the right
- synth title: VB-303 Venom Bassline (centered)

Alternate Horizontal Panel #1:
- rear port labels: mix in, waveform, sync in, etc, bring them all together into one group, align to the right
- synth title: VB-303 Venom Bassline (left justified)

Horizontal Panel #2:
- tuning, cutoff, resonance, etc on left side (1st group)
- distortion controls to the right side (2nd group)
- space all the knobs in this panel out more for aesthetics

Horizontal Panel #3:
- space out and re-align the knobs and LCD display on the next panel for aesthetics (very small change)

Horizontal Panel #4:
- step sequencer controls
- love your sequencer panel layout - don't change a thing

This way, you will still increase the vertical resolution of the synth, but not nearly as much, and you have a nice bank of knobs on the next panel.
