Hi,

the demo of ElectraX will answer all your questions.

best regards

True, but basic infos like that do belong on a product info page imo...
Please note that using samples is only a small part of the synthesis possibileties.

---------

Oscillators

At the heart of ElectraX are the multi-synthesis oscillators with up to 18 oscillators per voice. With ElectraX you combine classic synthesis types like Virtual Analog, FM, Phase Distortion, Ultrasaw, Sync, Waveshaping, Wavetables, AM, and completely new oscillator types. It also opens unheard acoustic possibilities with its exclusive Fractal synthesis, which can be used to mimic the behavior of organisms or analog circuits.

Samples and Wavetables

You can use ElectraX' sample oscillator to import your own waves, a quick import option is available to create custom patches or vocoder sounds based on your own samples with a mouse click.
ElectraX ships with a large selection of licensed wave content, including morphable analog and digital wave types.
In addition to this you can automatically resynthesize your own waveforms from samples or import custom wavetables.

-------------

FM on samples is possible. You can do for example scratch sounds with that or freaky vocal effects.

Here is an excerpt of the possible synthesis combinations. There is a lot more possible.

As FM source (modulator) you can use:

- Wavetable
- Fractal
- Virtual analog
- Sample
- Noise
- Ultrasaw
- Phase distortion

As FM destination you can use:

- Wavetable
- Virtual analog
- Sample
- Ultrasaw
- Phase distortion

-------

As Sync source you can use:

- Wavetable
- Fractal
- Virtual analog
- Sample
- Noise
- Ultrasaw
- Phase distortion

As Sync destination you can use:

- Wavetable
- Virtual analog
- Sample
- Ultrasaw
- Phase distortion

--------

It is also possible to use FM and Sync at the same time. Waveshaping can be applied on everything.

--------

Key splitting, velocity splitting and layering for samples is also possible.

Best Regards,
Markus

I suppose I'll know in a few days when I try the demo, but I'm really curious what you can do to a sample when you import it. I assume it's fairly basic - sample start? speed? any cool tricks like position or scrubbing through the sample?

I think someone mentioned the PW knob being used as sample position, can it be modulated for cool scrubbing type effects?

cheers, looking forward to trying it.

Some features of the sample player:

- Start position can be defined with 'Start'
- Loop point support
- Key splitting
- Key follow
- Velocity splitting
- Up to 12 samples can be loaded to the synth engine at the same time.
- Samples are automatically stored in your patches (fxp) and songs. You don't need to manage anything on the harddiscs or have the problem of 'songs with missing samples'.
- FM on Samples (this is rather unique); FM source can by any synthesis method
- Sync on Samples (Sample position set to 'start' when modulator crosses 0
- 128x oversampling to avoid aliasing and provide very high sound quality
- Tone control
- Additional Waveshaping or Filtering with distorion unit
- Qick import function
- Can import 8 bit, 16 bit and 24 bit WAV files

As i mentioned before the samples are one of many available synthesis methods which can be combined.

Oh you can set the loop point? Awesome. Hopefully you can modulate it. That always makes for cool sounds.

Has the handbook been made available yet ?

Can't seem to find any link to it...

Yes, there's a 65 page manual in english.

Nowhere on the site or forum as far as I can see.

This very specifically reminds me of some of the Yamaha SY/TG series of the early neinties (SY 77 and SY 99, it was called RCM, for "real-time convolution and modulation")

Yes. It's a nice feature. I have used RCM on my SY77 a lot in its day.

I'm can't wait to check out the demo.
I wonder what restrictions it will have.
I hope it's the time limited kind, and not the noise burst one.

You must say thanks to Xenos. He requested this. It was quite difficult to implement it properly, since you need a lot of oversampling to avoid aliasing on the playback.
I did some experiments with this on sound design. Especially lower modulator frequencies seem the be interesting. This way you can create scratching and time-manipulating sounds.

I'm just uploading it...
There will be a time limit and no noise bursts.

interesting..I was the high bidder much of last week on a tg77, then through a series of events having to do with running cables etc within my studio I realized again why I went to software in the first place. So I was relieved when my high bid was surpassed..will keep an eye and ear on morhpX.

Hi Markus

Any ideas yet on pricing please ? upgrade from gladiator 2 price please?

Thanks Martin

In Yamaha SY77/99, feeding a sample into an FM algorithm can be very useful for accenting the attack portion of the sound. There is an example in the factory presets where the saxophone preset uses this technique well. Myself, I liked using RCM to create more nappy bass sounds, where the RCM is controlled by velocity which can add very dynamic sounds. It's also good for more textured sounds, which are especially nice on pad/atmospheric patches. Here's an example of my textured pad from my Yamaha SY77 sound bank:

That textured, dark sparkly sound is done with RCM.

The TG77 seems to be an interesting synth. Especially the DX7-style arcitecture is nice. This synth could get a 'vintage classic'.
Our new synth is called ' Tone2 ElectraX'. ;-)

Nice idea! Instead of FM modulating a sample i could use a sample as FM source. I guess i could get some nice formant-like sounds when i set the sample key-follow to 0.

Markus
