I'm guessing you are pointing out how the opinions "differ"
on a technical level, rapid's wavetables are in fact cleaner than pigments, by clean I mean more accurate
what samdi is saying about rapid sounding sharper and more gritty is about it's character
for one rapid has better tables as well, and more distortion options
but this is where the distinction gets funny, because clean oscillators actually mean you can make a dirtier grittier sound
"dirty" or not clean oscs (as in they are low fidelity and less accurate) get noisier when processed, they lean towards white noise faster, which is why they'll sound soft or sometimes "lush"
where clean oscs will sound sharp and the clarity of the upper harmonics will cut through and modulate the distortion better, allowing for more aggressive sounds
so our opinions about rapid actually line up, I'm just analyzing it and describing it as "clean" on a technical level
where samdi is describing it as "gritty" on a descriptive level

So, I bought Pixels eventually.
When tried some sound design, first thing I realized is that it doesn't have oscillator phase reset control - all oscillators are free-tunning.
So, no psybass or any other low-end bas for that matter ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for that, a lot of ideas and workflows I'd never thought of. The granular section of Pigments is really great... I overlooked it for the first couple of months of using the synth.databroth wrote: Mon Nov 30, 2020 8:03 pm also for anyone interested I've made a short tips and tricks on pigments, it's got some incredible west coast style sequencing tricks up it's sleeve

Yes, Pigments tries to emulate with a certain amount analog sound, which leads to make it „unprecise“, because analog is unprecise and rather a smooth and warm sound.databroth wrote: Thu Dec 03, 2020 6:41 am I'm guessing you are pointing out how the opinions "differ"

Rapid is more proudly digital and thus cleaner, but with more agressive sounding filters resp. with an more agressive oversll sound, what I meant with gritty.
You can make Pigments of course also sound nicely agressive ( and of course Rapid making sound nicely analog), but you need to put some effort on it, while the other offers it more out if the box.
So no contradictions here.

Nope. It's petty, because I already plenty of other synths that can go a good psybass, but no variable osc phase retrig put me off and still puts me off buying it.DJ Warmonger wrote: Thu Dec 03, 2020 7:08 am So, I bought Pixels eventually.

What's with the horrible stepping of the filters in Pigments? The other Arturia synths don't do this. Has this come up before? Tweaking the filter has very audible stepping. Have I missed some quality setting?

I think the GUI input response tends to be laggy. Do you hear it if you automate the movement?Echoes in the Attic wrote: Thu Dec 03, 2020 8:09 pm What's with the horrible stepping of the filters in Pigments? The other Arturia synths don't do this. Not sure what's going on. Tried a bunch of presets and it went away. I've almost exclusively used the granular, not used the filters much. Don't why it steps sometimes and sometimes not.chagzuki wrote: Thu Dec 03, 2020 9:01 pmI think the GUI input response tends to be laggy. if i tweak the filter cutoff by hand and use a "darker" osc-wave like triangle or sine for example
i can clearly hear some sort of zipper noise/stepping
but only when dragging by hand (probably no oversampling in the scanrates)
goes away, i.e.: no zipper noise/stepping when the cutoff movement is through LFO or ENV

There is a new Pigment update (2.2).
Thanks Arturia.
But I am not sure if the release notes are correct.
Are there suppose to be new presets included (and if so how do I find them specifically) AND these four additional macros (which I see in the Jup-8 but not in Pigments).
Thanks

I don't see any update available in the Arturia Software Center...

On mac, ASC updated itself then showed me an update.
On PC, ASC did not update itself, showed me a Pigment update but got stuck three times downloading it.
I then downloaded ASC for PC directly and Pigments for PC directly from their website for PC to be fine.
But on Mac it did it all by itself. (well it did require a few clicks from me within ASC

Indeed. I had to close the ASC, re-open it, then Synchronize and then the update appeared. Thanks!zvenx wrote: Wed Dec 09, 2020 4:14 pm On mac, ASC updated itself then showed me an update.
