EvilDragon, I just want to thank you for giving your constructive opinion about how J-8's oscillators worked and sticking to it. It was very clear to me from the beginning that you were right about what you wrote. Unfortunately not everyone has your ears and experience. It also seems that the developer was in agreement about it as well. I am very glad that he had humility to make the changes that this plugin needed. J-8 definitely now sounds more like what it's supposed to be emulating.

Great idea!

I would also like to see the current value of a trimmer when I click on it. Currently, the display updates ONLY if you move the trimmer, which is far from ideal...

Ha this was not really about ears at all, but more about "stuff I'd expect from a VCO analog", with casual knowledge on how they operate. Now I don't own a real Jupiter-8, but I've had some experience playing one (but not in recent times), and I do have experience with other VCO analogs. They are all but impossible to tune both oscs identically, that's all there's to it.

Patrick was either in agreement about it, or he added the new trimmers to SC page just to make this particular dragon shut the fk up  If I turned out as a bad guy (or a passive-aggressive one, heh) in here or not is left for every single one reading this thread to judge, but personally as I said I don't mince my words for anyone, anyone can take them at face value or understand them differently, that's not my problem though.

Either way, J-8 became mo betta as a consequence! And I'm glad that happened, because everyone can now enjoy it even more :)

Indeed, I definitely don't think he was in agreement, but it was fair compromise.

Some of you snowflackes should back off and grow a backbone , there is NOTHING wrong with constructive criticism , it is what a democracy is based upon , and this is a forum .
It also the reason why certain developers are pushing the envelope , and pointing out flaws is a crucial part in that process .
Patrick can cope with it , unlike a certain company that publicly slanders you when you point out flaws in their code .

Regarding the SC panel:
- weird short forms and a linguistic error
- black on dark gray, not easy on the eye
- what happens to voices 9 thru 12?
- one could replace the entire panel with a single GUI knob that intelligently randomizes all those parameters within the selected range
- as is, a global reset button would make sense

True True, that is why I'm not buying anymore from S**** and others.

I was in contact with Patrick last year or so and I gave him feedback/critics and he reacted very politely, in the end everyone wins when it's constructive and respectful feedback.

I'm also working as beta tester for several very known players in the VST / DAW scene. It's common to and wanted there to say your opinion openly, it may sound harsh, but no one wins if a beta tester only praises a product, there's always something to be found when testing :)

I forgot, I'm a software developer myself and I know sometimes the QA sounds harsh in text form. When talking with them on the phone, it's a different thing, they really all want the best for the product, and so do we here (mostly) in the forums :D

Found a small bug: when using the mouse wheel to change the Waveform parameter in the VCOs, it requires multiple wheel scrolls to change, but there are no in-between steps. Same for Range in VCO-1. Also same for all the switches, plus for some reason when you only click on the switches (clicking and dragging seems to work fine), it tends to respond weirdly.

Would also be nice to have a better representation of the rate of the externally synced arpeggio. You can't tell at a glance, and it's a bit annoying to scroll through the options, would be better to have a selection list pop up.

If you hover over the slider for the arp speed it shows you.

I wouldn't call that a bug , it's just the way how the mouse wheel behaviour is implemented .
Imagine that every wheel click is one value , but the osc waveform selector has a midi range of 126 values , selecting 4 waveforms
You can do the math yourself :)

Remember to increase the volume on the OSCs though, I find it just sounds better (driven?) when they are past the 50% mark.
Are you sure about this? I never heard they could be driven (but won't be complaining if they actually can)

Yep already mentioned the first and third thing you listed here, agreed with everything except replacing the entire panel with a single knob!

And the biggest thing missing is actually showing which voices are active by coloring the number differently. Indeed I would love it if SC panel in J-8 had 12 rows, not 8.

Post

why are there 12 voices, not 8/16 (haven't tried it yet, so don't know full info)
