Writing music on planes is fun, inspiring, and a great way to pass the time. Noise canceling in-ears makes it workable. You might come home and think it sounds shite but who cares? It’s better than watching movies for 9 hours.

That would be my preference too. Little resonance compensation button, if you want it.

LFO8 wrote: Thu Sep 14, 2023 6:59 am The point is; why incorporate that negative side effect when in software you don't have to? Some things do not make sense when you emulate hardware 1:1 in the software domain.
Because there are people who forensically go over every aspect of any plugin that purports to be based on an analog circuit. Noise, drift, per voice miscalibration, etc, are all “negative side effects” of analog circuitry, especially vintage circuits, but it’s what make vintage synths so good.
What synth is PolyMax emulating? Or if it's a mish mash, which filter specifically? A steep bass falloff when resonance is turned up is not a characteristic that all analog filters share. Sounds like the Polymax filter is modeled after the Ladder filter.
Obviously it’s not modeling a specific instrument, but trying to be its own thing, like the Korg Prologue, Melbourne Instruments Nina, Arturia PolyBrute, etc, are trying to be their own things.

It’s the only way I can completely forget my surroundings (on a plane) and just enjoy the time.

Off topic now, but… I once took edibles, made to help sleep. They take an hour to kick in, so I took them an hour before our departure time, but then the flight was delayed 3 hours. :x

It was the strangest feeling. Everytime I thought I was just blinking, it would be different people in front of me. I was nodding off at times and not realizing it. That really messed me up.

Soooo… I’m sticking with music making on flights :hihi:

Do you not find it distracting when you are trying to fly the plane?
Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

Hey “dude” i wasn’t - and you didn’t even speak to your own until jumping on what I said. I merely stated two facts.

Is this really going to get personal now?

You state 2 facts.

He asks 3 questions, and makes 1 statement.

Seems very impersonal, no?

This boring synth sparks so much controversy!

i stated that some people can only really use machine auth and it's maybe one reason more people aren't talking about this synth or using UAD in general, and in return i got a smarmy earbashing on the cost of a dongle and my apparent lack of time management. warriors

Agree. I like the synth for what it is and it's sound, but that to me comes across as a bug rather than a desirable feature.
I just fired up my Nina (24 db transistor ladder low pass filter, kind of Moogish) and Polymax, cranked up the resonance, tuned them identically, and they have the exact same drop in the fundamental.

That’s how those filters behave. I’m not saying that you should like it, but there’s a reason why they’re constantly copied and regarded as one of the best and most iconic filters.

Well enjoy your polymax then.:P

I had a couple of voyagers, schippmann ebbe und flut, I think 30+ different 5U modular VCFs and so on. Strange that this polymax is the only one I instantly skipped using and never turned off the minimoog due to volumeloss when using the resonance. Guess I got faulty ones back in the day..
But seriously...
Like I said it is just too much, not realistic at all. The only synth I had that acts this way is an Alpha Juno, that one loses a lot of volume when adding reso.

I cannot enjoy it like it is, great that you can.
