Since it’s mono only, I will try it later today using Unify and Polybox.

Isn't the 'new' X-STREAM exactly the same as the (polyphonic) Spectral Synth? If you own HALion 7 you already have the Polyphonic version of X-STREAM?
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Does that load multiple instances to achieve poly? Brute force poly.

The CPU crusher.

I finally updated from 6. When I check the task manager, the CPU usage is not significantly much more than H6. However, latest version of Windows 10 adds a significant usage on top of it and that appears to be where the overloading is. I'd be interested in knowing what the Linux/Apple users are getting with this. (It'll be a couple of weeks before I get around to trying it on Ubuntu.)

It's very similar, but it's laid out in a more user friendly way.SLiC wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 3:05 pm Isn't the 'new' X-STREAM exactly the same as the (polyphonic) Spectral Synth? If you own HALion 7 you already have the Polyphonic version of X-STREAM?
It's also missing some stuff like the envelope variations, Waldorf filter, and probably other stuff.
I just took a quick comparison glance.

I was looking for the HiDPI option but on Mac it seems that HALIon 7 doesn't offer it (although the handbook doesn't say it's Windows only).
Thus, the trial is finished for me after less than an hour.
Why is it so difficult to implement a scalable GUI in 2024 (same for NI Kontakt)?

I haven’t explored X STREAM to much but it does look prettier- but I think Spectral Synth has also been updated and of course it’s polyphonic and. An be combined with the rest of Halions stuff, so I’ll probably stick to that - some nice presets in X STREAM so no complaints as they are giving it away to everyone free….that is probably why it’s monophonic- it’s just a taster to try and get people to buy HALion and use Spectral Synth!felis wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 6:53 pmIt's very similar, but it's laid out in a more user friendly way.SLiC wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 3:05 pm Isn't the 'new' X-STREAM exactly the same as the (polyphonic) Spectral Synth? Halion 7 looks really interesting and with the 50% off and attractive crossgrade pricing (I've literally got ALL of the products they mention as crossgrade options) I'm going to demo Halion and see if it's worth a purchase.
Question: At what point can I specify the Halion 7 content install location? I'm currently downloading the package but hopefully I can specify the location myself.. right?
Also question about the software e-licenser. Has it been stable for you guys on Mac? I do have the old school e-licenser dongle somewhere at the studio (have a Wavelab license) but I assume the software version is like iLok cloud or computer locked license, right?

Sure you can move a location with the Library managerbmanic wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 7:59 pm Question: At what point can I specify the Halion 7 content install location? I'm currently downloading the package but hopefully I can specify the location myself.. right?

And the Library Manager is inside Halion 7?
The Download Assistant did NOT let me specify where to install.. it's just incredibly dumb and installs it all in the download directory.
EDIT: NO! It UNPACKED everything and then just moved it to some default location. Gave me no chance to specify where this is. Sigh..
This link says there should be some dialogues popping up but that is NOT the case. What a mess..
How on earth does a company like Steinberg have such a lame installer/download software? I mean it's even worse than all the competition's software (NI Access, Arturia installer thing, UVI installer thing). Really weird.
EDIT2: Ah no, apparently Library Manager is yet another piece of software you need. Jesus..
I'm seriously thinking of just skipping this product due to such annoying bullshit you have to go through. Doesn't exactly bode confidence in the company and their programming skills.

It's easiest to do it before you start downloading.bmanic wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 7:59 pm ....Question: At what point can I specify the Halion 7 content install location? I'm currently downloading the package but hopefully I can specify the location myself.. right?....
There's a section near the top labeled 'Target folder' where you can specify where you want it to go.
You can also pick the default location.
I usually forget to change it after I download something to an external drive.

No, in the Download Assistant, the only directory you can specify is the DOWNLOAD directory. Which is a good feature. But you actually need to set the INSTALL directory in a separate application called Library Manager.felis wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 9:19 pmIt's easiest to do it before you start downloading.bmanic wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 7:59 pm ....Question: At what point can I specify the Halion 7 content install location? What is even worse, the instructions online on Steinbergs own website do not correlate with reality. The link I posted in my previous post shows the FAQ/instructions and they are 100% false.
The whole process of demoing this piece of software has been thoroughly frustrating. Heck even the install and library manager software itself looks "amateur programmer" at best. It says something when Melda Productions setup is easier and more straight forward than Steinberg. It's not a good look for them at all in my opinion. Somehow I expected this to be on the basic level of NI/Logic/UAD etc.. but yeah, that's not the first impressions I got at all.
The last Steinberg product I owned was Wavelab and that too is very weird in a lot of ways but at least that one was programmed by a single dude back then and just carried the Steinberg name.
Anyhow, I finally got it all installed and will start the trial. This has got to be pretty epic to be worth the hassle. I hope it's not another case of UVI Falcon bullshit.

Maybe we use it differently. I specify where I want it to go with the download assistant. If I need to move it later, I do it with the library manager. On the right side of the manager you've got 'move', 'remove', and 'details'.
